    Brake bomb replacement guide

So I currently have this to go by from Rusty: Cheers mate

    • With the engine off, pump the pedal until it goes hard - this empties the bomb of fluid
    • Remove the low pressure line (hose clamp) from the bomb and drain the mineral oil into a container
    • Remove the high pressure line (brake union) and cover to prevent too much fluid loss - leave the brak / clutch reservoir cap on to maintain a seal
    • Remove the bomb assy from the car (a few bolts hold on the bracket
    • Swap the bomb over and then re-attach to the car
    • Attach the lines
    • Fill up the PAS reservoir with correct LHM mineral oil
    • Run the car until the brakes work correctly - the pedal should be smooth
    • Turn the steering from lock to lock to pull fluid through the PAS system
    • Turn the car off and top up brake and mineral oil fluids
    • Check the bomb is operating correctly using the pump method
    • Check level and fill to a known point
    • Re-check level after a few days to check for leakage

    ... or something like that

I'm sure someone will shout if I've got anything wrong
I have two things to ask.

Will one litre of Power Steering G0004000 be enough for the whole system or should I get another bottle? Also will I need to top up brake fluid at all after the change?

    Thanks

Go Vacuum servo and save your self problems

brake and hydraulics are not connected so no need to fill unless needed

Are you sure it's the bomb? Have you tried bathing/ leaving to soak the power steering cap/ sensor in cleaner and given it a really gentle brush with a soft brush? 99% of time that is what causes people's (!) symbol. I have had to do it a few times over the years as it gets a bit sticky for some reason

Yep had tried the cap a few months ago, still was the same! It happened more noticeably in hot weather though (As we have now). Oh well replacing stuff is always a good thing right? (Not in my experience though as replacing the radiator meant replacing the A/C condenser, Compressor and A/C pipe )

Tomorrow a few more goodies to get installed on the car, hopefully it won't have its mishaps

I replace the bomb on my 3b . Well actually my brother who isn't really mechanically minded did.
He did it in an hour. 1 litre of fluid was enough and you don't have to touch the brake fluid.
            Its not plumbed in.
I gather its easier on an aby as you don't have a battery in the way.
The good news is it was one of the best things i ever did. I was sick of the bleep after start up and hard braking followed by tin wife going. Why does it always do that!?

Should be pretty easy then, they've had a hand at a fair bit of work on my S2 and never had any problems even though they'd never worked on one before, with a bit of guidance from the forum ofcourse . They're more used to working on Kias and the likes of the crap we have these days

Will be up on a jack so access from underneath bonus , got an RS2 FARB with RS2 drop links going on today as well as replacing a torn CV boot, fuel filter, that's it I think, really need to make a list of the things I replaced in the past year since I've owned my S2, quite a fair bit
