Stock fron Brake Discs on URS6

I'm getting a vibration and a strange noise when I brake sharpish in my S6. I was chatting to the mate I bought it off who says that he never changed the front discs but when he bought it the guy told him he had the discs skimmed .

I phoned up today to get a set ordered but was told there are 2 sizes, 288mm and 314mm. Does anyone know what the stock size is?

    Cheers

Ok, cheers guys. I should have known anyway as the 314 ones are more than twice the price of the 288s

Be aware that vibration when braking could also be an indication your control arm bushings/bearings are shot - it certainly was contributing to those symptoms on my own car.

I'm pretty sure that the noise is from the brake disc, that with the story about them being skimmed means they will be changed anyway.

Sounds like the discs - had the same thing on mine... even a few tenths of a mm variation in thickness across the disc can cause juddering/vibration.

Well, I got the discs ordered up during the week, went for Bremo discs and pads.

I haven't driven it yet from fitting them as I just did them this morning but I dont think it takes a genius to see what the problem may have been:

I am shocked to say the least! Seems you should maybe replace discs rather than having them skimmed after all.

Set up the handbrake too, didnt realise the S6 has vented rears. I think looking at them that they will be replaced soon too, but they are nowhere near as bad as the fronts were.

They do look terrible!! Never seen discs that bad!!
I didn't realise the rear discs were ventilated either.

Did you manage to fit /deal with the pad fitting ref your HP2 thread??

I got them fitted, the same way they were in the first place. Looking through old threads here, some seem to have wire clips and some don't. I'm wondering if the part alloy ones off the A8 have the clips and the original S6 ones don't.

Does the early A8 use the same HP2 braked then?

From what I can tell theres a part alloy version that was on the A8, not the exact same caliper.
