  • HP2's nearly scared the sh*it out of me

A couple of days ago I noticed that my brakes have gotten quite soft/spongy and that I had excessive pedal travel. I decided to simulate some emergency braking and then I got a bit scared….. The pedal went to the fu*king floor and the braking force wasn’t enough to make the abs work – not even on wet roads!
Then I tried bleeding the calipers because I thought that maybe there were some air pockets in the calipers, but then this caught my eye (photo) - and the same has hapend to the right side too

So, if you have HP2's and you suddenly experience spongy brakes, then please check your pads!

Weird, I have seen that on pads I left in a damp garage, and on cars I have bought that sat for ages.

        Cheap pads?

I think they are genuine audi pads, don't know how old they are but at least 3 years old... I already ordered new ATE pads in germany - now I'm just waiting for the f***ing DHL-guy. Hehe

Just because the calipers look rusty it doesn't necessarily mean that there's something wrong. I can assure you that they perform as they should

Brakes are Brakes and your life depends on it , as an ex vehicle examiner if your car had been involved in an accident the first thing I would look at is first the brakes then that suspect brake pad and if that was found to be instrumental in the cause of the accident then I am afraid you would have some explaining to do to the courts

I know! That's why I don't drive it till I got new pads....

Really?? They look like they've been at the bottom of the sea for a few years, I'd get them stripped and overhauled if I were you.

Or you could upgrade to some bigger brakes in the same condition

They probably look like my calipers. I had a similar thing happen on G60 calipers, so not just related to HP2's. Luckilly I was changing discs and pads, when I took one of the pads out, the friction material had started separating from the metal backing.

Hahaha.. I'm afraid that such an extreme high performance brake upgrade will catch the MOT-guys attention

The picture reminds me of an old joke: How do you make a Volvo go faster?? - Simply by raising the plough
