  • Got remapped and need more brakes - damn !

    Chaps..

Think I need new brakes ...

The car had a recent remap and have had a few brown trouser moments, more due to the fact that the discs and pads are a bit worn.... but I am using this as the excuse for "a bit more brakes"

    I have already upgraded to gt3 4 pot calipers with 965 351 046 discs (322 x 22)... All fitted perfectly.

My new calipers are GT3 6 pots (996.351.432.30). I measured them up and they appear to be the same bolt fixing points and width as the 4 pot, just longer.. so my custom brackets will still do the job. Clearance under my 18" Cup Wheels will not be a problem.

So here is where I need some expert advice.

    - Anyone done this before and can I go for bigger discs to get more brake torque ?
    - I am planning to use 350 x 34 discs but the center line of the disc needs to be the same as the existing 322 x 22 discs. From my calculations I need a top of bell to center of disc dimension of 61mm, 1mm less than the 322 x 32 disc. So, Can anyone tell me if there is a standard porsche disc which will fit or am I better to have custom bells and rotors made ?

    - If I go for the custom bell / rotor route, where can I get them and what would be the approx cost ? Is floating better than solid for the road ?

    - The Calipers need to be fitted with new seals, is there a rebuild kit available for these calipers? Where is the best place to buy ??

    - What pads do I need to order, the calipers came without them ?

Sorry for all the questions but you could save me a lot of time (and money) if I can avoid the trial and error approach to this problem...

Appreciate any advice you can give..

in a very short answer yes it has been done before....

I run Phaeton W12 disc and bell assembly and they are about £340 for a pair

seal kits, try a brembo dealer or porsche....mine are literally brand new

as for pads, I'm running DS2500 from curcuit supplies, speak to Tim as he sorted mine out and cost a year or so ago £230....
