    Brakes (and plugs) finally fitted

After mucho waiting, new front brakes are on. Also had new NGK plugs fitted after reading the various horror stories about the OEM Bosch plugs failing. Car boosts well and can not report any difference in use from the Bosch items. As long as they remain in one piece, all is well.

The bedding in process should take 300miles according to the manual. I have not stepped on them yet as did about 40miles, religiously sticking to the soft braking pressure intervals from 55mph-30mph in blocks of 5, then leaving it 1/2mile before repeating until it was done at least 30 times. I now supposedly have to increase pressure on the kit for the next coupla hundred miles before they are ready to use in proper anger.

I did have to step on them a little bit when some numpty biker almost pulled out on me and oh boy do they grip ha ha. Very very sharp. Pretty sure the Calipers weigh less than the Movit ones I removed. Discs are bigger though so probably offset any reduction gained by new calipers.

Quick pic with cam phone. Forgive the dirty wheels, have no time for cleaning at the moment.

        Nice

Are 17's the minimum size wheel that will clear the calipers?

Please tell me that you intend on changing those old P6 tyres.

          Yep 17's are minimum.

Ha ha, the old P6000's have been on the to do list for a long time but they refuse to wear out. There always seems to be something else to do but I will get round to it.

Put them on the top of that to do list... Lethal in the dry never mind the wet..

Once had them on a 2.0L Bora that wouldn't pull the skin off rice pudding and they performed like the cheapest remoulds on the market..

Oponeo.co.uk have some great deals on tyres..

P6000s are truely awful, I had a set on the Avus I fitted when i did my 5 bolt hub sap years ago. I swapped to sport contacts and the difference was night & day. Twice as much grip

I used to run P6000's all the time (205/60/15), would get 16K out of a set quite happily, and gripped well... but then we are talking 10 years ago now... Perhaps they were just old?

Contis on the other hand, never used to last at all on other cars I had them on, good in the wet, mediocre in everything else!

I rate tyres on grip not how long they last, so depends on what you look for in a tyre

I agree with bits and pieces of what everyone says here.

I didn't put the P6000 on this car and when I do replace them, it will be with a softer stickier tyre as max grip is better than average grip, plus I never use the car in the wet. With that in mind though, I don't think the P6000's are that bad in the dry. I rarely lose traction and I drive it hard. With tread left and a tyre that is still doing pretty much what it should (they also seem to stop pretty well) I have better things to do with my money. If they were dangerous, they would have gone immediately.

Replacements would be based upon overall grip in the dry and not length of service but on a daily car, that might be different.

All fairly subjective depending on what you want i guess.

Not saying I need long mileage out of them, I found the grip good, but also when they let go, very progressive, unlike Avon ZV-1s(!) which I put on it when I had a little less cash... oh and they wore horrifically as well!
