Need help with Porsche Brake Mod

I got a set of Brembos off E-Bay and was hoping you guys could help me adapt them to my S2. The part number as far as I can make out is 20 4558 06. I need to get a rebuild kit for them, but I should be able to get something like that from a dealer.

    What I need is:
--A part number for the pads which go with them
--Can I use my OEM discs and if not which ones do I need
--Can I use my OEM carrier (caliper mount bracket), and if not what do I need

If there is another thead which addresses these particular calipers, please let me know. I wish I could give you more info...

    TIA!!!

    Mik,

Alistair E is going through the motions right now with this! whether you have the same caliper or not??? but between Alistair and me we worked out that he could use the RS2 pistons and pad backings, then he got the pads from..... Alistair??

What ever you do... DON'T undo the bolts that hold both halves of the caliper together though.... Long story... Marco helped us out a LOT with this problem

Martyn, it's funny, I posted this on the forum so I wouldn't bug you anymore and you end up replying....hehe

Thanks for the info, I hope Alistair E can help...

I am SOOOOO glad you told me about the bolts, I'm just the kind of person that loves taking stuff apart when rebuilding, and had already decided to take them off...whew!! I take it you can rebuild it without seperating it?

here to help!! but I must get back to my inbox... so many mails to do :-(.

Definatly leave those bolts where they are!! all you need to do is fit new pistons + seals if they need to be replaced, that's all really needs doing Mik.

            Porsche Caliper Overhaul

            Mik

Not finished the work on the calipers yet, will be able to tell you if everything fits hopefully by Friday or Monday (weather and parts permitting). As Martyn says, don't touch the bolts which hold the two halves of the caliper together, no-one will give you the torque settings and they are a stretch bolt.
I split my calipers because they had some corrosion underneath the pad springs which I think was not letting the pads move properly. Someone had partially rounded the allen key bolts which hold the springs on which made that job a real pain.
I ordered the seal kits, which included new pistons, from Martyn (much cheaper than the dealer). These were the kits from the RS2 calipers although my calipers are possibly off a 928.
I had a few problems trying to identify which car the calipers were off. The numbers you quoted are the Brembo part numbers. When I quoted these to the porsche dealer, they said that they could not identify anything from these numbers. I asked them if they could indentify thecalipers if I brought them in. Guess what? No! Unbelieveable!
Anyway, don't want to get bogged down too much in my painful three weeks off the road. If you want, I can measure up all the bits tonight, piston sizes, seal sizes, distance between pistons, etc. I will also have the brembo part numbers printed on the seals, the new ones were the same. Let me know if you want this info and I will try to sort it out for tomorrow.

            Alistair

              Guys,

What bracket are u using to bolt these on - i have been looking at various calipers on ebay from brembo but have always stopped at bidding becuase of the probs getting a custom bracket made and knowing my luck then offsets not being right etc etc etc

              Cheers,

Alistair, that would be great, any info you can provide will help I'm sure. Good luck with that, I'm looking forward to seeing how you make out!

David, that's why I asked about it in my main post. I know my calipers came off an Audi (an 80 I think) and were not standard. I asked before I bid if they included the carriers/mount brackets and he said yes. He didn't send them however and now I'm worried. I have the rear of my car up on jackstands, completely ripped apart and I'm unwilling to jack up the front as well just to see if the S2 carriers will work, si I'm going to either have to wait and see or hopefully have Alistair or someone else tell me they will/will not work. I understand your concern!!

                  Caliper Mounting Brackets

                  Mik/Steve

Not sure of the exact brackets, but the do have Audi part numbers on them. I am therefore assuming that they are the RS2 brackets. I'll check the numbers tonight and post them here tomorrow. They do have spacers between the caliper and bracket, probably about 5mm.
Forgot to mention, I'm using 314mm x 28mm discs on custom bells. These were on the car when I bought it although I have replaced the discs with AP cross drilled ones.
Pads are RS2 EBC reds but I had to file the paint off the ends to get them to run. Like I said earlier, I'm not sure if this was because of the corrosion under the springs.

Hope that helps. More info tomorrow

                  Alistair

                    Mik,

Just wondering - are you running these under your 5 spokes?

Depends on whether I can afford new tyres for my RS4 wheels before I get my car back on the road...

BTW...here's the calipers I recieved, don't know if this will help anyone with info gathering...

                        Mik,

They look to me like they are an integral caliper and mount flange. The picture showing the caliper mounted from underneath shows just two bolts which would be where the original caliper mounting bracket would be.....so i guess that solves why you didn't think any were sent, they are part of the caliper

Looks like the disc is the standard diameter as you can see the dust shield as you would on the normal discs - obviously apart from the fact that the hub is a 4 bolt as opposed to 5 on ours.

I would have thought they should fit behind a normal wheel but who knows. Funny i looked at these when they were under auction but didn't notice the way they connected to the strut otherwise i might have bagged them ops:

                        HTH,

Mik, those calipers look similar to RS2 rear ones. I have them in my .... Aladin cave . Will check and compare them with your picture when I go home this evening.
