    Audi Cabriolet 2.8 / S2 brakes

Well, my local garage ordered some pads in today for my 2.8 Cabriolet and turns out they were the wrong ones. It appears that the brakes on the front of this are different to the other cabs and are maybe S2 brakes, now I know they haven't been upgraded aftermarket, so what does that make them, twin pot S2 ones?

If so, what do you guys recommend for brakes and where to get front discs and pads from? I am not keen on Mintex or EBC, I like DS2500's when I had my S4.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

Hi Lee,you definitely have S2 front calipers (G60's) as thats what the 2.8 got from the factory.Excellent brakes for the cabby imo.Pads are a personal thing but i also like Textar what Audi originally used for these.Audi have the discs but not cheap.Try looking for the Brembo ones should be cheaper.

cool, cool, thanks for the confirmation of the S2 brakes - obviously thats callipers only as the s2 is 5x112 and my Cab is 4x100.

I've been looking around larkspeed and there is some good stuff on there. Haven't heard of Textar though so will have a poke around for those and get a guide. Cheers buddy

I believe the calipers on the 2.8 and S2 are the same 2 pot sliding type. Only the 2.8 Cab had them so they've probably just ordered the pads for any other with the single piston calipers. I can't recommend anything having only ever had OE pads fitted.

Lee, Porsche use Textar and believe me they are superb pads. Audi don't want you to know that but if you peel the backing of the pad Textar is written underneath.Perhaps Audi have gone cheaper now but they definitely used to use Textar.I got some Textar pads for the 2.6 avant from ebay de because for some reason they are impossible to get here now, i tried everywhere at least that was the case last year.

gsf sell textar pads, was £50 last time for a set for porsche calipers. They was ok but produced loads of dust and wouldn't stop my s2 from really heavy breaking at warp speed.

Well, I have been reading up on things since posting, and I opted for Ferodo Discs and EBC Green Stuff pads, I know some people have mixed experiences with EBC, so thought I would give them a try, plus, they were on offer when I decided to get the discs.

If they turn out to be crap I will hunt down some texture ones and give them try.

Funnily enough though, the low dust nature of the greenstuffs is what swayed it, my Brocks are five spokes with huge gaps and can get real dirty, real quick!

Thanks for all the input guys, will keep you posted on what the experience of these is like.

Who has told you Green Stuff were low dust? They covered my wheels and in the two cars I've used them (both fitted prior to my purchase) I've never had a set last more than 6 months of daily driving.

Couple of friends have been running them, one on a clio v6 and another on an B5 1.8T, I guess I will find out myself soon enough, although I am concerned at the 6 Months expected lifespan (!)

Any supplier recommendations? I got a call earlier from larkspeed to say the discs were now N/A so cancelleed the whole brake order and will start again

Your chance Lee to get the Textar pads, you know it makes sense. The discs are quite common as in at least 3 cars S2 7A and 2.8 cabbies and probably more.

Link on ebay for Brembo discs b ut you will probably find them cheaper.Just look, get soem part numbers and check over on Amazon.
