    Finally My Rear Conversion

Not much different from johnb's conversion although there is a good write up for this there were however a few things i found that didn't go smoothly as i had hoped but hey i'm there now so a few pics.

The handbrake carrier doesn't quite sit flush with the hub as the guy in work drilled the holes to m10 didn't drill them straight so when he tapped them they are at a slight angle so when i put the bolts in along with the three 1mm washers in the top hole the bracket was touching the disc on the bottom so i only used 1 2mm washer and although still slightly at an angle it cleared the disc enough.

Then i mounted the caliper carrier.

    [URL=http://s1180.photobucket.com/user/bilko0795/media/93D4B777-3F06-4D48-9840-657C9F848B5E_zpssmgxzmck.jpg.html][/URL

    Next the Disc.

First i tried the 996 turbo rear caliper because it was (Red) but alas didn't sit right the pads were only toucning half of the disc : I KNOW THE CALIPER IS UPSIDE DOWN BY THE WAY

Any way mounted the handbrake caliper looks good

    .

Fitted the brake hose to the new brake line i had to have made normal form the nut was knackered on the old one.

    .

Then took off the red caliper and replaced with the 986 caliper had an issue with the the holes on the caliper not lineing up with the on the holes carrier didn't have this with the other caliper anyway placed a 2mm washer behind each fitting hole and bingo fits a treat.

Then it was time for the Handbrake cables what a palaver fitting these B------S Avant cables are still to long they could be 1ft -18inches shorter there is a place in nottingham where i had my handbrake calipers from that make custom handbrake cables i will give a shout. i will upload the pickys for cables shortly.

Looks good Ray, That turbo caliper looks like it will work nicely with a 330 disc
A shame that muppet drilled the holes in the hub like a retard
I hope you re going to use a proper spacer not washers
Oh and I think that radius on the brake flexi line is too tight - you need a longer line

I have just ordered a pair of spacers but am a bit confused at the mo as the add said to fit Audi/Vw/Skoda centre bore is 57.1 and im pretty sure all vag are 68mm. anyway i have asked the guy this question waiting for him to get back to me.

Yes they would look good with 330 disc's but finding them for the rear's is hard i bought mercedes E330 ones for the front but i think i may have bought them in error as when i tried to fit them they wouldn't go on the hat height is 64.5 not sure if our cars are 46.4, the flexi is ok it was the other one that was to short this one is the second one from the front lines fits ok.

        330 x 22 rear rotor off B8 S4

I meant a spacer between the caliper & the bracket mate

The washer is in between the caliper carrier and the hub

Oh. Well, sounds like whoever made your carriers mate them wrong

Don't forget to do the hub bolts to 110Nm + 90 degrees!

Not sure about drilling the hubs in the part where they join the struts - I think I'd have made a right angle bracket off the strut to hub bolts - but looks beastly for sure.

The caliper brackets were made to suit the 996/Boxster S rear 996 352 calipers not the 986 Boxster ones. Thats why there is an issue. This potential problem has been raised previously!

Would it not be possible to countersink the handbrake bracket attachment bolt holes and use an allen bolt so that's its flush. Seem to recall that some of the backplate mounting bolts are accessable through the hub threads. It's obviously not an issue but would look better as long as it does not effect strength.

Sounds like a good idea but like you said as long as it doesn't effect strength i will look into this.

I also checked the numbers on the calipers and they are 996-352-421/422.

Its just the finish that makes them look like 986 rather than 996. The black is matt rather than gloss. It would explain the issue as its difference between 24mm discs vs 20mm discs so you would be 50% of the difference out = 2mm!
