I was due to replace the rear brake discs and pads this week as the previous owner had run them right down and the discs themselves were corroded. However, before I could do this one rear brake pad has crumbled altogether. At the same time this happened the engine seemed to go into 'limp mode' (which pretty much saved me as when I hit the brakes there was almost nothing there). Prior to this the engine and box were perfect.
Its a later model 2.5 tdi fitted with the tiptronic gearbox.
My question is does the Audi have a system which detected the brake failure causing it to go into safe mode? Will replacing the rear discs and pads and bleeding the system etc fix this or will I need to take it to a garage to fix the limp mode?
When you start the car you get the usual OK message but it says 'service' below.
