You get what you pay for, the OBP/Compbrake boxes are not great, certainly if you are going down that route use genuine Girling cylinders as a minimum but ideally AP ones.

A lot of sense there. I use a tilton one it's very well made not as nice as the Ap ones the NGTC uses but it's a 1/4 of the price as a Ap one with discount on it!!!!

We have fitted a fair few of 600 series Tilton pedal boxes, fantastic for the money and work as you would expect , ironically 9 times out of ten it's been replacing one of the units mentioned in this thread.

Brakes are reasonably important, I would strongly advise that if you are going down the pedal box route that firstly you buy from the right manufacturer and secondly consider if you can live with a floor mounted box, they are not for everyone and driving position is critical for comfort and I personally struggle with a lot of them, So much so I'm probably going to have to swap my own for a top mounted unit as I simply cannot get my seat back enough to get my legs comfortable, I am 6ft 2 though but I would consider all of this as I know so many people who have converted to pedal boxes as they're affordable these days but soon regret it.

thanks again for all the advice I think I would prefer the pedals hanging from above same as standard set up but with the master cylinders [ap] inside the car. I also don't think I will have room to move seat back [and don't want to ,due to roll cage ] with a floor mounted pedal box

I then removed the pedal box during my corsa steering column install. Complete with all its weird linkages and clutch master cylinder it weighed about 6.5kg

I think maybe the top mount setup I linked might fit but the steering column might be in the way of the master cylinders. I have asked for some more dimensions to confirm.

For a top mount unit it may be worth speaking to Gartrac as they do a fabricated one for the mk2 Escort, it's a nice bit of kit, not to he compared to the one in your link. Worth a email and see if you can get some measurements off them.

Also regarding your epas column once it's fitted get yourself a controller from Rallywiz in Ireland. Used all sorts before finding them and they work a lot better and are very reliable.

Ok thanks for the heads up on both fronts. The controller i got seems to work the power steering ok so I will try it first.

we took some measurements , the box will fit but the main issue will be steerimg column and bracket

regards to steering we have run for many years a mr2 electric / hydraulic unit which still connects to hydraulic pipes from standard audi rack with no mods to the steering colum req , 2 people I know run a similar unit from the newish mini on there quattros

I just want to do away with all the hydraulic systems and the corsa column is.much more simple. No hoses etc.

true did you manage to weigh the new colum with motor fitted could well be lighter overall than the old set up and what I currently have , which could tempt me to go down your route , do you have any pics , did you do all the work

Some pics in my URQ build thread. I didn't weigh it but it is lighter than the hydraulic setup. It's about the same weight as the stock column and engine driven pump and bracket. So you save the weight of the oil and the hoses etc. I just did it as I wanted to reduce the "junk" under the bonnet. But you are moving weight further back I suppose which is a good thing.

I wouldn't go with the compbrake/ OBP ones as like has been said they are not the best. I am running a floor mounted tilton in mine which has been superb. The only downside is that the cylinders out the back required it to be lifted up. The new reverse mounted set up with cylinders under your feet is what I will be fitting into my new build.
