I just wondered what opinions are for Avus 17 or 18 on coupe ( with 15mm spacers and standard 16s at the moment) to fit over 996 t calipers (429/430) and suitable discs yet to be purchased ?
Want to keep the car standard looking so Avus is what I want to use ..thanks
I dont know what clears the brakes but i do know that sticking 18's on my avant although looked great, made it handle like a bag o poo!!!!! Im pretty sure most people here will also agree with that as ive seen lots of people say 18's dont improve the handling of the car. In fact i think Kit said the 16's on his coupe were the best for handling he has come across, having tried other sizes available to him.
I have 18 on the rs2 and would never go back to 17. You have to consider doing something for the suspension either way. 18 means that you need to be a bit more careful with pot holes
i always found 17's a decent compromise, even though I have run 18' rs4's on mine for years. They are very much more sensitive to camber and a bit more crashy on usual UK roads, the 17 with extra touch of sidewall means they run smoother and are a little lighter on corner weight too.
I run 17" S4 Avus with 225 45 17 tyres and 15mm spacers all round and can't fault it. I tried a few sets of 18" but they were far too crashy on the pot hole filled roads around here.

Yup sounds like the roads round here mate - and you're not that far away from me .. So do the big centre caps fit on a 17 Avus or is it just the 18s .. As leaning more toward the 17 with bit mor side wall for the bumps,
But rims could run to 8.5" or 9", but Avus don't come in that size, so I stick with these sizes.
HTH.
S6 17" MkII Avus come in 8.5" [edit: or maybe 8.0 ] and are ET37 so they fit with no spacers.
Although the extra width and convex shape means that 225/45 tyres offer absolutely no protection from kerbage.
