  • abs sensor

Got an ABS light on my aby avant. Checked the resistance on the sensors and the rear passenger sensor is ******ed. I have looked about and the P38 range rover sensor looks the same. Does anyone know if it will work on my avant or know of an alternative sensor without having to spending a small fortune?

PN for that rear sensor should be 8A0927807C. Item 12 here:

Check the CV joint ring gear as well while you're at it. I was getting ABS lights, because my front CV ring gear teeth were clogged up with rust and dirt. Quick clean solved it.

You can use land rover? or trailer ones cheaply, just need to splice them I think.

I got a B5 A4 quattro (same rear suspension design) rear one from ebay cheaply, might need to change the connector I cant remember.

Get a new collet/sleeve as well, land rover one from Tonks/online is cheap, Audi one is mega expensive.

If the ABS ring on the CV joint is cracked then get one the right size online, heat it and drop it on.

I used the sensors off of an early A4 which were cheap from a motorfactors. They come with a square plug though so you have to cut and splice the old round plug onto them. And i used the sleeves from Tonks on here. Did this to both sides when i rebuilt the rear end of my avant earlier this year.

I had looked at the B5 A4 ones but noticed that the plug was square instead of round. My worry was buying one and it being to short. But like you say andy it should be the same cable then just swap the plug over. Think i will give that ago. Thanks guys!

Just checked with my good friend Kate and she says

                  8D0927807C = A4 1995-97, 1998-99, 2000-2001 (note: not quattro)

                  Whereas 8A0927807C = A80Q 1992-94, 1995-96; RS2; and A4Q 1995-97, 1998-99

I wonder what the difference in them is as the not quattro one seems to be fine in my car. No abs lights, no pulsing, no nothing that it shouldnt be doing. And yes the abs light does there as i have tested it through trying to make the car skid lol

                      'Fuel Parts AB1172 ABS Sensor'
                      or
                      Intermotor 60263

                      Both @ £14

Unless it has recently been changed- the AB1172 is still on (and working??) on a certain ruby red avant that's in your part of the world, Andy.

At worst, you may have to change the multi-plug.

I thought I had a spare rear ABS sensor taken from B4 quattro to offer up, but turns out its an aftermarket front item that was on the old B4Q.
Only number it carries is WABCO PRI 147 and it references a diameter of 6.2mm - this one includes the two grommets - identical to OE item that I removed from front yesterday.

Quick google finds the WABCO catalog - http://inform.wabco-auto.com/intl/pd...8150701703.pdf - do a search in that for "Audi" or "441 032" and you will see a bunch of sensors that might be suitable. I also found Rover P38 sensors referencing very similar part numbers so as long as you get one long enough and with correct connector you could be good.

It also finds the mighty copper sleeve as WABCO 899 759 815 4 which you may need - these are small money on eBay once you have the part number.
