    Brake Pads...

Looking at options other than the DS2500s I've been running for years, as I've found that they are prone to judder.

    EBC Yellowstuff or Bluestuff
    Pagid RS14
    Performance Friction 06

Any other options to look in to?

I have yellows on the back now and have used them on other cars with good results.

Use is mainly road with some track time, so an allrounder is required.

After an appalling experience with these on an old BMW, I contacted Mintex, who told me categorically that these pads are for lightweight cars only. AVOID at all costs on an S2 as under harder braking, they are not fit for purpose.

I'll have a look in to the CL and Hawk options and see what availability and price is like. The Pagids are £200 a set, so cost is all relative...

So I took the plunge today and based on discussions with EBC, I've gone with Bluestuff NDX pads. I was tempted to go with Pagid RS but they're more track than road and are not R90 approved. The DS2500s in there were shot, so I put some Textars back in and it's much better but the discs are ruined.

Will report back when it's all bedded in

Greens are more for lighter cars on the road.

For road use, stock pads like Pagid or Textar work OK, if not with quite as much bite as a higher fiction pad - I run Black Diamond Predator in my Clio 1.6 daily and they bite hard from cold.

On track, road pads can't take the heat, unless they're very large 8 pots with massive discs on a smaler car, so they fall to bits in a smouldering mess very quickly Finding something to do both jobs is a difficult one but possible.

I have found that the DS2500s tend to cause juddering when left for a while, as the material transferred to the disc corrodes and leaves an impression of the pad on there.

EBC Red are a good fast road pad, although they need bedding in well, as they are very hard material and Yellows are a good intermediate pad for the occasional track day but they need a proper heat cycle in them to work, hence why many complain that on the first track session, they suffer huge brake fade - get them smoking hot, let them cool and they're very good, if not quite great.

Blue NDX is a newer pad and should outshine the yellow, as it'll take more heat and shares similar cold bite (which I have found to be very good on other cars I've run Yellows on) but we'll see when it's all bedded in and I can get to an airfield or track

Pagid RS are £175 upwards, so a little differnt to some from Euro Car Parts Pagid RS are used by many race teams and are OE fit on the RS Porsches etc. so are a high quality product.

found the reds fell to bits when taking them out of the calipers.

cant comment on track use though. that's your realm

                            Not my experience but....
My friends who drive big fat Alfa 146,156 GTA's and a Porsche 996 with Brembo 4pots use Performance Friction pads.
They all used to run DS2500 but now use these and say they are a vast improvement.
For this reason I have bought them for my S2 however, the car is still off the road so I haven't installed them yet. I went for Z-Rated .11 compound (Similar to Pagid Sport RS

A mate had the Z rated in a 911 and on the road they squealed like anything, hence why I didn't go that way. Goot intermediate pad though.

RS29s are there dog's danglies. £230 is though...
