ey oop, ive got to bleed the brakes on my s2 this weekend, does anyone know what other brake fluid is compatible with castrol srf? dot 4 maybe? I need to do this, this weekend and cant source any srf thatll get here in time
Cheers in advance
Gav
SRF is (I'm pretty certain on this) a silicone-based fluid, which therefore doesn't mix well/ at all with normal DOT 4: you have to fully flush the whole system with SRF first to use SRF?
Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
im just outside in Aylesham near wingham. Used to have a lousy reputation due to it being a mining village but touch wood never had any problems, and its close to Lydeen hill and canterbury which is a bonus.
Nice one

Castrol SRF is not silicon based so it doesn't happen anything if it mixed with other fluids. For better performance it shouldn't but it will not harm the system.
It is DOT 3 based and I use it in my car (a friends gives it to me for free) very expensive though.
I have a can at home, I might re read the label but I am sure it won't happen anything if mixed with Audi fluid, just make the fluid worst though.
It does say it has some silicone but is not a silcon fluid DOT 5.1 which do not work with ABS equipped cars.
The part you wanted is this:
Castrol SRF exceeds the US Federal Standards FMVSS 116 DOT 3 and DOT 4, ISO 4925, JIS K2233 and current SAE J1703 and is miscible with all conventional brake fluids conforming to these standards. However, mixing Castrol SRF and conventional brake fluids will reduce the benefits of Castrol SRF. It is strongly recommended that conventional brake fluid be drained from the system before flushing and re-filling with Castrol SRF
You are right about silicone but my point is it is not DOT 5.1 that cannot be mixed with anything and this can. At the can it says something about being DOT 3 believe me.
Castrol SRF is *the* best brake fluid out there. Its wet boiling point is amazing. Only grief with SRF is the price and that you MUST bleed it at least once a year as it absorbs moisture faster than traditional fluids.
OK so Dot 3 is compatible but not dot 4? is this right? Anybody know who stocks the motul RBF 600?
Cheers Guys
@Dan , yup i know Staple we go past there when we go for a rideout on the bikes, small world eh mate, definite lack of s2's in the area though.
Nice one
