    Brake Accumulator adice

The warning light on my S2 has started coming on when I first start the car which I presume means the brake bomb is on its way out? Wheres the best place to get one from now, its a 1990 3b. Seen a few people convert them to vacuum assist is this worth doing?

    Regards Tom

It gets expensive to repair the hydro system. Carry out the test to see if the brake accumulator is working properly. Run the car for a few mins and turn off and you should get about 30 brake pedal presses before it goes hard. Also check the pas level when you first start the car and if it has the right level of fluid as this can also trigger it

Warning comes from 3 sources: level on PAS reservoir, brake fluid level and brake assistance pressure switch (under the brake reservoir).

Disconnect each one in turn and see if you can pinpoint which one triggers it. Could be as simple as the level sender is sticking or the level is low.

Check that your PAS fluid is at max when the engine is off as it drops when you turn the engine on and can trigger the low level warning.

With the engine off, see how many pumps you get before the pedal goes rock hard... should be 20-50.

I converted to vacuum last year. It's a lot easier on a 3B so you're in luck. Not a difficult conversion and one that makes the brakes more consistent.

Rusty, on a 3B, do you have any answers to the couple of queries I stuck in there about moving to Vacuum? Or more details on your conversion? I'd prefer a complete bolt on list of bits, but the parts cat doesn't seem 100% clear on this.

        Thanks!

I got a secondhand servo with feed pipe off a RHD Cab on ebay. Not sure on exact part numbers I'm afraid but it came with all the attached parts, so this solved a lot of headaches, as there's a bracket, the clevis and a few other things I'm sure.

I have a custom breather on mine so took the feed from the underside of the inlet manifold and then used a T piece for the N80 and ran a 1 way valve before then mating to the OE feed pipe, which I shortened and which has another 1 way valve in it.

You will need to get Error to modify your PAS pump (which includes a rebuild) to single stage or remove the spring under the X plug.

This mod neatened up the engine bay nicely and IMHO is safer than the hydraulic system, which I've had issues with in the past.

Yup, a fairly simple mod with OEM parts. Did this on my UrS4. Be sure to check that the vacuum servo is not leaking (membrane is not torn).
