    APs or porsche???

?????? Im am getting more and more confused??????

So far i worked out porsche monoblock setup would cost me £500 (all bits and parts etc)
    .....Aps would cost me £1200-£1500

So if it seems that porsche would be the best option???
Are they good or is it worth spending more for Aps?

pls can someone make this clear

    thx

What kind of driving are you doing, for ever day use and the occasional track day then the Porsche conversion as your using stock OEM parts.

If you go AP's then the cost of new discs will hurt when they wear out.

Best bet would be to speak to Lee as he might be able to get you a better deal on AP stuff.

A big AP setup (eg. 6-pot calipers on something like a 350mm disc) will give you huge brake performance, no doubt about that. If you've got that kind of money to burn, go for it, you won't regret it. If you haven't got that sort of cash, and you can find all your Porsche bits for £500, then go for that. There are a lot of happy Porsche setup users here, and there are also happy AP users too.

I can tell you with personal experience that Lee's AP kit gives him significantly more powerful braking than my Porsche setup, but the set up I've got was all I could afford, and I'm happy with that. I got the best I could with the budget I had at the time.

Either way, they're stacks better than the tosh the S2 comes with as standard.

What ever you do, enjoy the improved braking.

QRSport do a nice brake setup for the S2s. I'm thinking about getting Tim to make some brackets so that I can use the calipers on my S4. Really nice and light alluminium 4 pots and the pads and discs aren't badly priced either!

            Come on, guys, be devils!

I am offering the AP kit at £1,200 including VAT if I can get five orders together! That's 25% off normal. Even for single orders I can get 23%.

            AP's S2 kit comprises:
330x28 discs, drilled or grooved (I keep recommending grooved)
(BTW they last longer than you think especially if you choose grooved only)
            Four pot differential bore calipers
            Ferodo DS2500 pads
            DOT 5.1 fluid
            Braided pipes
Ready assembled discs with aluminium bells

...everything you need! It's a genuine bolt-on kit and it works!

            PM me!

More orders = better discount. My buyer at work is a good negotiator!

I will definitely be getting a kit soon, and I would be delighted if a few other folk wanted to join me

                    Only 28mm discs tho Martin????

Unless you really abuse your car on a regular basis and i mean track use abuse then i wouldnt spend so much and get the AP, Porsche is more than adequate for day to day driving and are far more affordable, on top of that the replacement cost of parts, ie discs and pads are far more affordable as well

What do you mean, "only" 28mm, Ant?!!!
I'm quoting from the AP catalogue CD here, 28mm - that's what they say.
It's not the "wide" disc system that can be had - that isn't available as a kit.

A friend (actually my "negotiator") ran an A4 for a year on an AP kit and it exhibited virtually no wear at all - and he abused those brakes like hell!!! The only reason he stopped using them was because he wrote the car off - and that had nothing to do with inadequate brakes!

They really don't wear out as quickly as you think...
...even less so if you don't do trackday driving

As for the cost - well, if we can get whole kits at discount, we may be able to do the spares as well! I'll enquire about part prices.

Why is everyone so fearful of the AP stuff?!! Stop being pussies!!

Nothing, just that the Porsche conversion is tried and tested and very easy to source parts, S8 discs (30mm) are £70-80 from GSF!! The overal packege is cheaper.

Pays your money and takes your choice really.

I was referring to the disc size because everyone says the Brembo caliper option is a big no no because the calipers only allow 28mm discs which everyone on here strongly recommended against on a car weighing in like the S2 does.

I think the only thing people are fearful of is the price. Absolutely no doubt in my mind about the quality and capability of this AP kit (and the company as a whole), but its a whole 700 quid more expensive than the proven combination of 996/Brembo calipers, RS2 carriers and A8 discs. That 700 quid is a significant factor for many people - myself included.

Don't get me wrong - I really like the AP kit - I've seen it & touched it and AP have a proven track record (literally) in the world of brakes. It just comes down to money !

AP certainly have a proven track record - they stopped our Le Mans cars very effectively for several years!

I would imagine the AP kit is a proven combination too, I doubt they would be allowed to sell it otherwise?

If it is just a money thing, I guess I'm on my own here... I'm not that well off but I want the best stopping power I can afford, it's as important as the "go" aspect and can turn a quick car into a quicker one.
