The problem with 280mm is the handbrake cables will be too short as the Avant has trailing rear callipers. This is why Coupe rear conversions are easier as they use leading callipers so the handbrake cable is no problem.

It is possible that A4 Avant handbrake cables might fit but I don't know.

hey Josh would you mind telling me what hubs are you going to be using on front and rear to do conversion. I have same car and would also like to convert to 5x112 bolt pattern.
      thanks

there is an 8mm difference between the S2 hubs and the A4 rear hubs. To make S4 or A8 rear rotors work on a S2 car you have to remove 8mm from the hub carrier and the caliper carrier to make the offset correct. Basicallly you would be moving the caliper 8mm closer to the strut housing.
I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who need reasons when you've got quattro?

that was in response to Henka's question.

I'm using A4 rear hubs on my B4 v6 sedan and stock A4 rear rotors with Stock b4 v6 sedan calipers. Later down the road the S4 rear brakes, or A8 rear brakes are a direct upgrade.

Most likely I will use S2 front hubs. I'm still researching this option.

So the rear track would be 16mm narrower then? Usng A4 hubs/discs, is that B3 only or?

Ahh.. Now I get it, you mean that I need A4 rear hubs in order to make it work with A4/S4/RS4 stuff AND I will get a 16mm narrower rear stance?

I'm sorry if this is confusing. I should of taken pictures at some point. You can use the S2 hubs. The S2 hub is 8mm shorter than the A4 rear hubs. If you were to install A4 rear hubs the wheel base would be 16mm wider.

The A4 rear rotors have a 8mm difference in Hat height from the S2 rear rotors.

To install A4/S4/Rs4 stuff you have to shave off 8mm of material somewhere to allow the rotor to match up to the caliper. The caliper postions are the same on the A4 and the S2 rears. The difference between the setups is the hat height in the rotors and the the extra 8mms in the hub.

Basically if you were to install S4 rear rotors on your S2 hubs the rotors would not be alligned with the calipers.

For all the b3 platform folks. I'm preity postive that A4 rear rotors and hubs will work with the b3 rear suspensions and hub carriers. If you don't mind the 16mm wider stance.

              Does this make sense?

Billzcat1 must have missed out on the fact I was talking Avant when he said the cable would be fine. I'll check with him again.
