    Brake Issues! Help!

After recently having my brake fluid changed and a brake hose replaced on my S2, my brake pedal is now vibrating (pulsing) even when idle. This was not the case before the work was carried out. The work was done by my local main Audi dealer who are telling me this "NEW" fault is due to the pressure reservoir leaking and it needs replaced. The computer in car is showing the fault too. A second opinion from my local independent Audi specialist says the pressure reservoir is all linked to the ABS unit and replacing that should resolve the fault. Main dealer is not actually sure what the problem is and how it can be resolved? They are just assuming even after a 3 hour investigation into the fault. I did not pay for this (luckily). For the work to be carried out they want in excess of £600. Assuming they are correct in their diagnosis I would suspect the price is mainly labour charges. I have had the car approx 3 months and this is the only fault in what is otherwise my dream car.. Any ideas or contacts if anyone can help would be greatly appreciated..

This does sound like the brake pressure accumulator/ resevoir, AKA the Bomb. It's a very common fault on S2s - do you get the red alert sign flashing on the multifunction display when you start the car?

Surely, if the fault was not there before the dealer did the brake work then it is down to them to rectify this "new" problem, maybe i'm missing the point...

Sounds like a bomb problem to me.

Just bad luck perhaps having it happened simultaneously?

You can always test the bomb by pumping the brake pedal ign on and engine off and see how many pumps of the pedal it takes to de pressurize it. Anything under 40 pumps it's replce time if my memory is correct.

Oh oh! It's "that" problem again! The problem where I sound a little silly with my explanation, but it is actually 100% true.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me when I had my bomb and brake fluid changed. The brake pedal would vibrate as if the ABS was kicking in.

But, while I was driving round, waiting to save up some funds to rectify the problem, one day it just miraculously solved itself

Neebover, just to make sure you do not get ripped off, make sure that that the vibration problem you have is not something that can prove dangerous. Then just ask who ever did the job for you originally to check that they've "dotted all the I's and crossed all the T's"!

As your problem sound exactly the same as the problem I had, I really dont think it is your bomb that has gone.

Just take the car back to the people who did the original job for you and get them to check over the job again... and at no extra cost!

I advise caution if it is the bomb, have you ever tried to stop one of these cars without hydraulic assistance-ie if the engine cuts out. You practically have to stand on the brake pedal--its scary and if your too close to the car in front, it is easy to go into the back of them. When my engine died last year due to shoddy workmanship (crank bolt came undone) i was towed to the building where i rebuilt the head by my dad. My bomb lasted a seven mile journey almost to the spare bay at my mates garage where i carried out the work. On the last 2 streets the bomb was empty and i had no assistance-that was really scary-Like trying to stop a hummer with Mk 1 polo brakes
