yeah they are the wheels i have. Would i be able to get a different disc to go with the rs2 calipers that would not need any modding to fit on the avus wheels

IIRC no as you need the correct offset and size to fit. I do not think there is such an option off the shelf hence most seem to machine down A8 discs to 304mm.

Ok - in theory, Monoblocks should be superior. Being made from one lump of metal, instead of two halves joined together by 4 massive bolts, they should be more resistant to torsion and flex in the caliper, providing stronger braking force, and they should actually provide a slightly bigger thermal sink for the heat that gets chucked out. However, the main benefit really over the older RS2 (and Big-Red)-style calipers is in the pad-retaining mechanism.

The stock RS2 and Big-Red calipers both use a stainless steel "sprung plate" mechanism to hold the pad in to the caliper. Unfortunatley, what happens over time is that you get bi-metallic corrosion between the sprung plate and the caliper face, and ultimately this damages the sprung plate to the point that it fouls the motion of the pad. This then sets up the squealing and sticking pad symptoms that all of us with RS2 calipers have suffered, myself included. It's not difficult to solve - at least not in theory, you just remove the sprung plates, clean out the corrosion and replace with new plates, but the design of the caliper makes that less straightforward.

Note, I don't know how the pad-retaining mechanism works on the monoblocks, but it doesn't use sprung-plates and you don't get this corrosion issue AFAIK.

Anyway - don't worry, the whole topic of brakes is surprisingly complicated because there are so many different potential options. It all comes down to how much money you want to spend, and how prepared you are to customise bits/ hack things off/ get new custom bits made.

I went down the RS2 caliper/ RS2 bracket/ RS2 bolts/ machined to 304mm A8 disc route becuase it was cheap, the parts are readily available and involved almost no modification to any source part. According to my maths, just doing this small upgrade results in a 60% increase in braking force at the front wheels, not taking in to account the improvements in pad friction and the increased heat capacity of the system by having bigger discs/ bigger calipers and using better brake fluid.

My recommended pads are Ferodo DS2500 (best pad bar none in my opinion), and recommended fluid is the ATE Super. - Castrol SRF is better, but it's also 10x as expensive as the ATE, which you can get off fleabay for about £10 for 2 litres.

I'm a big believer in getting the biggest bang for your buck, and also in getting the best for the least hassle. Hence the above. There are other options, there are better options, there are more expensive options. You takes your pick!

        Happy to help!

Alg, and my solution is a bad one? I think I just told how to do it.

instead of machine down the a8 disc to 304mm, why not space the rs2 caliper out 5mm? A friend of mine with rs2 did this to fit bigger discs, and it worked out just purfect...

You could do that - but wouldn't you end up with 5mm of non-swept disc material near the hub because the pad is designed for the 304mm diameter? What would you use to space the calipers out? Scares me slightly the idea of packing the caliper bolts with washers - the amount of force that goes though the caliper, bolt and bracket is quite considerable?
