Hydraulic Fluid Pouring from resovoir cap - solved

    Hi folks,

I have had a problem with Hydraulic fluid pouring out the cap for the last few weeks, so the car's been off the road Having replaced the cap and bomb over the weekend without success I finally found the culprate by accident - A small section of the filter gauze in the plastic stainer basket that slots in the resovoir had pulled away from the plastic, so when the assembly is forced into the resovoir by the cap i had a spirt of fluid firing straight at the cap rather than being forced through the gauze! Not sure if its a known problem but it was a new one on me.

BTW bomb made a huge difference to braking - £128 +vat from Eurocarparts for a Febi one. That beats the stealer by some margin.

Did you fit the Bomb yourself? Is the Febi one a straight swap then?

Yes I fitted the bomb. I found it supprisingly simple. I did take out the bomb still mounted in it's carrier and split them out of the car (It's an UrS4 BTW). The Febi unit is absolutely identical to the original removed, save for a blanking plug on the side of the square section opersite the brake line - I know Febi (Bilstein) used to supply VW parts to the factory (Mk1 Golf oil pumps for one) so I assume they did/do the same for Audi.

I can highly recommend a turkey baster for emptying the resovoir. £1 from poundland inc a carving knife and sharpening steel

        Febi Bomb

        Hi RustyRump,

Glad to here the Febi bomb fitted your UrS4.

Anyone know if it is the correct one for an S2 ABY?

        Eurocarparts lists:

        FEBI 13044037 Brake Pressue Accumulator AUDI 100/200/A6 88-97 £128.64

        and

FEBI 130440500 Brake Pressure Accumulator VARIOUS AUDI £ 254.35

If the cheaper FEBI one fits the S2 it would be a good saving over an origional one.

It sounds as if the system is too full, when the engine is running the 2 piston pumps in the PAS pump charge up the bomb thus reducing the level in the reservoir-this is ok, but some people will refill the reservoir to the max level. Easy way to test is to switch th engine off, take the cap off the reservior tank and have someone hold a big rag around the neck. Then pump the pedal until th bomb is fully discharged, it is surprising how much oil the bomb takes and to get the right level, this is the easiest way, as while you pump the pedal, the bomb is discharged back to the reservoir.
