    Standard brakes, fast road setup

I'm bored of having rubbish brakes but can't afford a decent Porsche upgrade. I'm after grooved front braked discs with less than 10 groves per side and some better pads, Mintex 1144s or EBC Green Stuffs.

To throw the cat among the pidgeons, what do people use, recommend or hate?

To be honest, the standard brakes will always be sub-standard no matter what you have fitted. I tried all sorts to get the stock brakes to be good but it just didn't happen. New pads were better but didn't last long till they were fried!! The cost of new uprated pads and discs won't be that cheap, you could just buy the calipers and get the rest for the porsche conversion over a couple of months. You won't regret it. I did my conversion for less than £500 for 323mm setup.

    Cheers,

If you must go standard size don't bother with the zimmerman x drilled and pagid fast road pads, some places will recommend this set up but its is good to start with then is worse than standard quite quickly!!! The pads on mine have loads of meat left but the discs are shadged! they all went on at the same time!!

Take it easy, and save for the Porsche brakes.

Wise words indeed, please excuse my youthful impatience!

          Cheers for the advice.

Save the money you'd waste on "upgrading" with similar-to-stock parts: they'll make very little genuine difference and may actually in some instances result in worse braking. Do some quality research and find a set of parts that will suit your budget. Upgrade once and you'll save your money in the long run as I guarantee you that if you go for a replacement disc/ pad that is the same size as stock with the G60 caliper, you'll only end up disappointed and end up upgrading a second time.

I managed to get my Porsche setup for about £450 - that's discs, calipers, brackets, hoses, pads and fluid. It can be done - bide your time, get the right parts when you've got the money and gradually you'll have the lot.
