    Fan Wiring

Just got the old telescopic mirror and torch out to look for some other issues, when I came across what could be the cause of my previous fuse 'incident'.

The connector plug to the fan has been chopped off and replaced by a series of badly crimped on lucars wrapped in insulating tape.

The tape has come undone and another part of the wire apprears to have lost 8-10mm of its insulation- perhaps due to chaffing?

What I need to know is - how can I get access to the end of this wire to solder a replacement connector back on? At present, access is severely obstructed by the ABS unit directly above.

    Any BTDTs???

Off for the weekend on Fri - must be sorted by then!

just done that mate - couldn't even get into a position where I could see the connectors. Even if I could, there is no-where near enough room to get in with a soldering iron - even if I could, I'd never be able to see what I was doing.

Think its going to have to be from above and splice in another connector plug from an 80.

-- So what is the deal with removing the ABS (regulator)? is it much more involving than de-pressurising beforre and doing a full system bleed once re-installed?

-- And is there any chance of being able to unbolt the unit and shift it across with the hydraulic lines still attached?

enjoying this challenge myself this morning, drained down the radiator, no gas in the a/c so cracked off th two nuts but just been reminded how bloody tight things ar in the S2. I though I would be able to move around the abs unit if it was unbolted from it's chassis but seems I can't get it past no matter what i do.

Whats the easiest way to get the lump out without having to remove everything

no offence, but i have learnt myself that everything will be better done, and sometimes quicker if you just remove parts to get there.

          my opinion though.

From memory on my 7A (same as 3B) i unbolted the fan surround from the radiator and removed it first. I dont have AC so that may be restricting your movement. ABS unit isnt going anywhere so you have to work around it.

It's so long ago, but I can't remember having any trouble getting the rad out, even with AC. In fact it came out too easily IIRC, and I ended up dismantling the rest of the engine bay, as I had so much spare time. I was only supposed to be taking the rad out to lend it to someone.
The car was complete until then, so the battery, tray and ABS unit were still in. I took the AC condenser off first IIRC.

Have you undone everything? Base mount, chassis mount, plastic cowl, electrical connectors, hoses.... Damn, it's hard to remember what else there is.
