Help Please! - High and dipped beam??

I am having a few problems with my HID installation and before I tear the car apart trying to solve a problem, I would like to know if there is an issue there at all.

Please could I ask people to check how their particular car works and then post how the car behaves in dipped, flash and full main beam mode? Can you add the Model year too please. Mine is a 1993 "L"...

Mine runs low beam (dipped) when the lights are on.

Low AND Main beam when pulling the stalk towards (e.g. a flash)

Main Beam ONLY when pushing the stick forwards away from me. I was under the impression that this behaviour was normal to switch to the central main beam units only with the dipped off.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Are you asking just for HID upgraded users to report Steve, or standard too?

I'm pretty sure this has been covered before in previous threads and there is info available on the forum.

I remember Martyn advising that you need to see how your car behaives prior to the HID upgrade and then compare to after the HID upgrade.

All S2's really, no ,matter if you have HID or not.

Steve's S2 is turning off low bean when the stalk is pushed forward for continous high beam. In its own right thats fine with halogen headlamps, but not fine for HID's. We were trying to find out if there is a pattern here. like are all pre 94 S2 Avants! working the same as Steves? same with the Coupes too? does anyone else have low beam turn off completeley when high beam is flashed or turned on by pushing the stalk forwards?

Can we just get a bunch of replies please, does low beam ever go off totally with high beam flashed or stalk forward to high beam.

My 94 Avant is low beam on all the time.
Ants 93 Coupe is on all the time

If we get enough people answering this post, we'll be able to say whether there is a range of cars that DO turn off low beam or not. If its an or not answers then we need to look at Steve's stalks for a contact problem maybe.

Just trying to get to the bottom of a problem guys.

          Appreciate your answers please.
          Thank you!!

Get both dipped and main beam when the stalk is pulled foward for flash and back for constant high beam.

                Hey Jamo,

I am not sure I am understanding your answer correctly. Do you mean High and low on Flash AND high and low on Main beam (stalk pushed away towards front of car for main beam constantly)?

                Cheers,

Low beam stays on permenantly if stalk is pushed in either direction.

Hmmm, wasn't the difference in dip/main beam wiring brought about with the introduction of ellipsoid lamps? So that would somewhere during '92-'93 (for coupes at any rate).

The change occurs in the connection of one wires on the stalk, I don't have that info to hand.

                        Hi Steve,

known problem on conversion to Elisoid Headlights on 3B. BTDT
I have a 3b with elipsoid (ABY) headlights. Had the same problem dipped and high on signal an highbeam only on "highbeam setting"

There is a wire that needs to be changed in a connector in the steering column.
There is a great thread somewhere with instructions and pictures. The red wire i on pin 1 of the connector and needs to be on pin 9 o.s.l.t.
I followed the instruction and now it works fine.
If you can't find the thread I have pictures somewhere.

The connector is somewhat hard to reach.

                        Good luck on the fix

                        Regards

I think Nuvo is correct. I have a 93 coupe 2.8 (without elipsoids) which turns the dips OFF when on permanent highbeam (lever forward) but keeps them ON when flashing. I therefore often used to drive in flash mode when on dark country lanes.

However, my 95 S2 coupe (with elipsoids) keeps the dips ON when on permanent highbeam AND when flashing - so no need to drive with the lever pulled towards me any more

                              Hope this helps

                              Cheers n
