There is a wire that needs to be changed in a connector in the steering column.
There is a great thread somewhere with instructions and pictures. The red wire i on pin 1 of the connector and needs to be on pin 9 o.s.l.t.
I followed the instruction and now it works fine.
If you can't find the thread I have pictures somewhere.

The connector is somewhat hard to reach.

        Good luck on the fix

        Regards
Thanks to everyone that has posted, I can't reply to you all

I think mine is an early ABY (it stlll had the five spoke wheels as spares when I bought it) and also did NOT have ellipsoidals as standard, these were fitted at a later date as an upgrade. I am sure it must still have the old wiring, which must have been changed at when elipsoidals were fitted to ABY's. Which has just occurred to me, I HAVE an ABY without elipsoids as standard!! (Does anyone know if there was an option code for these? maybe I can look it up on the build sticker????)

I am now confident I need to rewire the control stalk to correct this anomoly.

I will investigate the above information and also do a search on here.

        Cheers everyone.

Jeeez that took some searching ("headlamps" "headlights" "elipsoid", "elipsoids", "ellipsoid", "projector beam", "wiring", "modification") was like looking for a needle in a haystack

I bet you found it already though Steve, but if not here it is:

                  Hi!

                  The Teutonic Kitten: 1991 3B

                  Ellipsoidal headlamp conversion.
Flash (with the lever pulled back) = all lights stay on.
Main beam (lever pushed forward) = dipped beams go out.

Must consider that mod to keep the dipped lights on...
...I want to have the option to use all ten lights at the front:
four sidelights, fogs, dipped and main beam!
