which contacts did you clean?Originally posted by Jonas_RWell my rear wiper was working and then getting worse and worse and then one day simply stopped working.
Well in my case, i simply cleaned the contacts on the wiper arm and it worked again. So try this before anythin else
In regards to the wash thing not working it might as well be the washer pump that has died. Mine is dead any way

To be honet, I hardly even use the rear wiper (rain X

guys - the relay for the rear wiper is the same as on almost every polo / golf from the era..... so head down to the nearest breakers and grab a handful for a £1!
My problems were solved by a replacement relay and a dismantilng of the wiper stalk and liberal application of contact cleaner (maplin)..... this stopped the arcing and smoking from inside - dust I guess!
EDIT: oh - and the wires to the coupe boot lid were also completely knackered - despite already having been repaired once already! Put a strain relief on there now so hopefully t6hey'll last a bit longer this time.
Coupe relay is also under the rear seat base - passenger side.Last edited by Alistair C; 4 October 2005, 17:45.Comment

Once on the move, the rear screen on the Coupe stays completely clear of rain and dirt due to the rear spoiler, but it's when you stop that it collects water/ crud...
Moral of that I suppose is to always keep moving!Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...

Rear Auxiliary Relays on your picture. There is only 1 relay there in my car, ive re-soldered all internals but rear wiper still no go (i had intermittent problems, then it just stopped).
So, from what i read, possible reasons are :
relay
wiper arm contacts
actual wiper switch on the steering column
cable where boot opens.
thats 1 off my list, now, how do i check connections on the wiper arm? i see no way to take the plastic casing off the inside of my boot.. anyone care to point me in right direction?ABY Coupe

Can anybody tell me where the rear wiper relay is on a 3B coupe? I've looked under the rear seat and I can't find it.sigpic

On an MY1991 3B it's on the aux relay carrier under the steering column.
239 on top and either part number 191 959 529 if it's original or 445 955 529 A if it's been replaced.
