    Hall Sender Help RS2

    Hi Guys

Loving the Rs2 except had a couple of times when the engine wouldn't restart when hot....most embarrasingly yesterday when I stopped on the A11 to fill up with Optimax; ended up pushing it off the forecourt. Left it for 10mins and restarted.

I think the hall sender on is on its way out!! From the fault codes below is it possible to know which one is faulty? From previous threads I can see the one near the Cam belt is a real pain in the rear to do; something which a main stealer would rub their hands in delight!!

Does anybody know of a decent Audi Specialist in the East London/ Essex region that maybe able to help?

Is the Hall Sender available only through Audi, and any idea of cost?

    00515 001
    Hall Sender -G40
    Signal to positive Sporadic

    00515 030
    Hall Sender -G40
Open circuit/short circuit to B+ sporadic

    Thanks for your help

    Simon

You are pulling the cam pulley off the car so it is a good time to do a cambelt change, etc.

            Hall Sender Hell!

            HI Doug

Yeah you are indeed correct except it was done 10k ago! Annoying, very annoying!

Still, as the main dealer did it I wonder if they were aware of allignment of the timing marks? Or so I've read...."the lines all marked up, but apparently it should off one mark to the left."

I will PM Audiman and see what the guru says...

            Thanks for help guys

If the cam is not aligned correctly , you will be getting low boost and a fault code.

                Hall Sender Hell!

                Hi Doug

Thanks for that, there doesn't seem to be any codes other than the Hall Sender coming up, so I will see what Audiman advises.

The real pain was it was in for its annual service last week at a reputable main dealer who had done a multi point inspection on the car before I bought it. The codes were there then, but nothing was said, and in my ignorance didn't fully appreciate the cost implications.

In my defence I did ask them to specifically check the codes out when the car was in the garage. I suppose if they didn't get the engine hot the sensor wouldn't fail.

I don't think the lambda probe has been changed yet, would this be advisable as the car has done 70k?

I should have read this before replying to your PM. If the car isnt going well either like you stated, then it is well worth checking that the cam timing is right before spending 100+ quid on a new hall sender. BTDT. The sensor can be tested easily enough with a scope, so would get that done first.

Has it only been slow and showing the code since Audi changed the belt??

Although, if the car doesnt always start, then it is more likely to be the hall sender, as if the timing was off, it would still start everytime.

                    Hall Sender Hell!

                    Hi Tom

Thanks for the PM and reply....got my brother in law to give me a second opinion today as driving back from east anglia felt like there was no boost at all, or very little. We drove to the fuel station, then waited the now obligiatory 5 or so mins with the bonnet open to wait for the sensor to cool and off we went.

Boost there to begin with before getting onto the M25 then as we were on it he seemed to be getting less and less. After heading back the other way same thing little or no boost....

Is this a result of the Hall Sender? Does it send any messages to cut boost? Excuse my ignorance!

I just wanna get it sorted really!
