Autocheck With Radio Frequency Display?!

Just done a cambelt change on a LHD S2 Coupe (3B, 1992). Interesting point, it has a Gamma audio setup (full width like current Concert / Concert 2). It has GALA function, which is nice.

The surprising bit which I've never seen before on older Audis is the Autocheck displays, in addition to the usual stuff, also shows the current selected radio frequency / station name!

Was this an option on UK models, and has anyone on here got it?

mine does that too , think it will only work with an original Audi radio.

oh yeah, mine is a tape player Gamma, no cd changer

If only I could find a Gamma unit compatible with my Blaupunkt 10 disc changer, I would definitely fit it, my current head unit is a Blaupunkt Canberra.

Audi UK had the infinite wisdom to NOT avail of this wonderful feature on our cars and decided that we Britains needed something from Sony that looked prettier than the Blaupunkt Gamma unit. D'oh

I guess you're right Paul, the gamma units do look rather bland...

I had assumed that they are, so when David (MidnightblueS2) was kind enough to give me the original radio from his Euro S2 I thought...weyhey and fitted it but did not get the display.

My radio wiring looks original and intact, as the Pioneer tape player that Audi UK fitted (all my Audis have had this same pioneer series fitted) had the same connectors. There is however a single loose wire in the radio harness, which is not part of the main radio set (ie is not power, earth or part of the multi connectors) and is not connected to the radio. It has a spade terminal connector and is (working from memory here) either brown or brown/white. I have often wondered if it is the autocheck display wire, but can see no where to connect it on the Gamma radio. It is not an ignition bypass as my radio works when the key is out (****** annoying beep though) and does not show a voltage when grounded.

Maybe someone who has this function working could pull their radio and tell us what this brown wire is and if there is a separate connector for the display (brown or otherwise)?

if radio removed wire disconnected sets off car alarm???...............

there brown and grey wire
going from radio to T6c/2 plug( 6pin yellow plugbehind dash.....)
to v94( motor for central locking pump/alarm)

gala wire is white/blue goes to speedo(T26a/18 (26 pin yellow dash plug)


there is a wire going to mini check system.............(is this the same as display???)......but lso feed to antenna


ALSO a wire goiung to digital clock...from radio

plug T26b PINS 20.21.22.....(connector 26 pin white on dash panelinsert......auto check sdystem display unit)
T26b/22 red/brown goes to T6K/6 to T10h/1 on radio
T26b/21 green/red goes to T6K/5 to T1Oh/2 on radio
T26b/20 red/yellow goes to T6K/4 to T10/3 on radio


T10 IS RED PLUG AT BACK OF RADIO..........if you dont have one........plugs avaible at AUDI or VW.........OR ANY CAR HIFI SHOP

T6k is connector 6pin black behind consol

white and blue is GALA goes to dash speedo connecter blue connecter 26 pin in dash


brown/grey goes to V94.............central locking pump
