longshot but... would a Type 44 foglamp fit the type 85

know this is not S2 related, but ran out of places to ask and i need some and there is allways alot of Audi clever people on here

I have a 1987 CoupéGT which is up for its MOT.

Front foglamp got a stone through it and i need a new one.

Original ones come at outragous 100 euro (for one), but they can be bought non-original for the type 44 at only 40 euro. Nothing available (as usual) for the type 85.

Ive been told that the CGT/85 lamp and the 44 lamp is the same, but part numbers are not.

    Will this work?

    Thanks alot in advance.

Don't order the type 44 Audi 100 / 200 lamp! It will fit, but the lens has a different profile, and will stick out of the bumper, it won't line up with your indicator and bumper. Don't forget, the type 44 has a very sharp front, so the lenses are very sloped towards the inner edges. Here are some examples and compatibles:

        Type 81 Coupe = Type 81 80 = Type 85 Coupe = Type 85 90
        Type 43 200 = Type 43 100 = Ur quattro
        Type 44 100 = Type 44 200
        Type 89 80 = -------------

The only part these 4 different foglamps have in common is the plastic base. All the lenses are different, matched to the profile of the car. For example:

Ur quattro has a fairly flat bumper, with little curve top to bottom, hence a flat lens.
Type 43 car bumpers are flat top to bottom, hence a flat lens.
Type 44 car bumpers are pointed, hence the lenses slope towards inner edges.
Type 81 car bumpers curve top to bottom, hence the lenses slope downwards.
Type 85 car bumpers curve top to bottom, hence the lenses slope downwards.

I hope you get to read this post before you purchase the type 44 unit / s

ah ok, thanks for the info , was planning on placing an order on monday, but now it seems that its back to thinking

ive got the dummy reflectors for the GT, so probably end up putting them in for the inspection.

It just seemed so easy with the cheap and readily available type 44 lamp, but nothing is supposed to be easy i guess.

Know allready that the type 43 wont fit the type 85 as i have an old 100 5S standing around, and the plastic base is the same, but the lens is angled differently as you say.

However, was not aware that the URq and 43 shared the lenses

everyday brings something new, got a spare set of fogs lying around for the old 43, now i just need an URq to put them in

          uhm URq
