Well I've looked and can only summise that cruise equipped car got a different main wiring loom as it appears the connections are not modular - bit of after-lunch Friday drink-thinking in the electrics dept at Ingolstadt that week

3 things to remember when installing Cruise Control..

and this from a guy who's dealt with infernal thing for as long as I've owned the Coupe....since NEW.
1/ The sensors at the pedals are prone to total failure time & time again. Usually the O-Rings fail and make the CC inoperable. OR...They go out of adjustment. The latter happens as regular as the Sun comes up. And adjusting them to specs is a crap shoot at best. There really is no real spec from Audi on how they should sit in the pedal cluster.
2/ The stalk that operates the CC also fails quite regularly. It seems the printed circuit that the stalks are connected to on that side of the steering wheel are not as durable as say a Volvo 850. The printed circuit has a curious habit of cracking.
3/ The ECU that controls the CC also has a talent for going bye-bye. This one is the problem I have now. I have no idea why but it happens.

Overall when the CC works, it works fine. But when it fails...
The vacuum system on the CC is bullet proof. No problems other than wear & tear.

I had to buy two new metal clips for the sensors and they were really really tight to install, had to put a socket over the end and hammer them in. Should fix your problem with the adjustment. The procedure is to push them through too far, then grab onto the pedal and pull it up and the sensors will slide back to the correct position. I then used a length of hose to blow through and a multimeter to confirm the valve and switch were working properly.

Curious you say the switch is temperamental, the one in my coupe can take a few goes before it cuts in, probably the switch now that you mention it.

I have a dodgy ECU in the S4 too, only works when the interior of the car is warm. ....plan to take it apart and look for dry joints but i cant find the damn thing.

so does this mean when i do my ABY loom swap I might loose my cruise control unless I get a cruise specific loom?

No it just means you'll have to splice three wires from ABY loom into your 3-pin blue cruise plug... Pin out in this thread now

I fitted cruise into my 3B a couple of weeks ago. I love it......

On a good run set at 70mph I now avarage 36.6mpg.....

I mounted my cruise ecu under the drivers side. The wires I fed into the multi soldered conection in the loom just under the steering wheel. And moved the other wires over into the small blue plug.

Good point, i never thought of that. Is the blue plug on the engine loom or the main loom is the question?

The blue plug only exists on MAIN loom of 7A and older vehicles as best I can tell... Please don't have me pull a main wiring loom for death by connectors - LOL

That makes that easy then. Did you find out if the auto versions are different? I noticed there is an additional wire on the diagram which connects to the autobox controller on track 5. I assume it must disengage the CC if you manually change gear. Note its spliced into the same circuit as the brake lights.

There seems to be an additional 4-pin connector on the auto versions - haven't really unpicked why though - and the power feed to the module is provided separately on AUTO - all very bizarre and UN-German I'm afraid.
