alarm

im unsure of the alarm fitted to the avant all i have is one normal key the horn hoots when i lock the car manually i did find a vag alarm control unit below the drivers side dash trim but is it suppose to have a remote key

mine has the same thing by the sounds of it, Only activates by locking the door manually, its a Bosch Iris.
Ive got a clifford on mine too now.

The Bosch Iris thing, has an ultrasonics thing on the B pillar on the passenger side in my car. It looks like it has some kind of IR ball on the bottom of it for a remote but ive not got one.

i have a standard audi alarm/immobiliser and it has the remote fob. mine too beeps from the horn when i activate it.

Well, in a word, no. I have tried Audi but they were less than helpful. I have only got one for mine and i tried when i first got the car to get a spare but was unsuccessful. There is a company that will clone the keyfob but it meant sending it away and i wasnt prepared to do that.

I guess your best bet is a remote kit from vagparts, takes about 5 minutes to fit apparently and will give you 2 new remote fobs. I assume the act of locking the doors alarms the car but i dont know that for sure.

I see a lot of ebayers selling the new style 3 button remotes (with flip keys)
I wonder if they're reprogramable to suit the older alarms and central locking systems

I butchered a 3 button fob and built my Cat 1 alarm into it, so I have a flip and remote all in one. The PCB will have to be small to fit in the space available. Maybe you could strip a new alarm from a newish Audi (salvage) and have it fitted to yours??

I have had this alarm on the last few Audis I have owned, as it was a standard fitment on both Audis and Dubs for quite a while. The alarm is a Scorpion, model 918 and I have a pdf of both the fitting and operating instructions if anyone wants. Scorpion offer replacement key fobs at this link

They show the fob in question and in the questions below, cover the unique characteristics to this fob, i.e. : -

- 2 button
- 1 red LED which flashes when operating
- slider on one side and 3 pin programming slot on the other side

FYI, the slider turns offer the ultrasonics mounted on the A pillars. When Ultras are on, the lights flash 3 times for setting. When the ultras are off, they only flash twice.

If Scorpion no longer offer this fob, then try a scrappie, as some many VAG cars, plus Peugeots and Mercs had this alarms fitted, let along after market fitments. I am sure you could pull a replacement alarm ecu and related fobs from a scrapper, or just get the fobs and get them recoded.

Finally, there are several places offering generic replacement fobs. (like this place) Whilst you do have to send off you your ecu or other fob, it does have the advantage that they can be programmed to operate several devices, such as an electric garage door
