somewhat related to the autocheck thread

i'd like to relay my headlights but when i tried it last year, i had issues. i could turn on the lights just fine but once i hit the high beams, i could not turn them off. a friend of mine is having the same problem with his corrado. i'm pretty sure this is an issue with the daytime running lights that we are stuck with in Canada. are there any others out there who have DRLs and know how to disable them so the lights can be relayed?!

i'm going on this assumption because all of the examples of relayed headlights are in the states and the only difference i can think of between them and my car is the drl.

thanks for any help you can give

Have a look on www.20v.org there is a section there about US style lights, and converting to Euro style. IIRC.

yeah, it's there, but that's an american site. they don't have to deal with the damn DRLs. it's the only reason I can figure why the relaying messes everything up as it's the only difference between a US and Canadian cars...

basically wondering if they were required in any other countries and if people had disabled them.

I think cars originally sold to Sweden has the DRL too.

A lot can be found out by just measuring the stalk switch with DMM. DLR uses 2 extra connectors (9 and 10 IIRC) and harness has built in resistive cables for DRL.
One easy solution is to drive the relays from the original bulb connector wires. This way you have to disable the AC bulb check but so what.

Do you have the US style parking lights there or the euro style?

that's what i did and it didn't like it. i'll go through my bently next weekend and see what i can figure out. i pulled 1 wire in my corrado and disabled the DRLs but have had no luck finding that wire so far in the coupe

whaddya mean US style parking lights? if you mean euro bumpers or US bumper then i have the US style. Canadian cars are pretty much exactly like american cars only metric and DRLs

Doesn't US models have the parking lights at the indicators etc? This makes the whole switch wiring a bit different I think.

If your light switch is as it is here you should be able to disable the lights when switched to highs just by moving one wire at the light switch. Use that DMM!
