i bought a silver about 3 weeks ago and I am sure i read either on it or somewhere in the GSF brochure on in Autoexpress on their battery test thet they come with a 3 year guarantee.
the answer is yes, normally all the OE Audi batteries had a plug in the top side (edge) of the battery, so that you pulled the plug out and then stuck the right angled vent 'tube' in there. This then usually has a tube that goes outside the car somewhere to vent off fumes etc to atmosphere. If you havent got the right angled tube, its part number 171 971 913 about 50p. See Etka 915-10!

Sealed unit probably means its just the wrong one for the S2, not sure if will be fine all the same. The one i had in mine before was a sealed one but had to have it replaced about 5months ago with one that has the vent connection
mmmmm thanks . gonna have to check that out . got it from euro parts supposed to be the correct one. is a bosch for sure . dont know about the vent holes tho . what is the reason for the vents anyway? why a vented battery?:wacked:
thanks greg , i suppose thinking about it for a battery thats vented, that should have been obvious. what i cant get my head round is why a sealed unit should fail if fitted . surley it will not matter ? or is there a reason why a vented unit HAS to fitted.  re mikes earlier answer.
I'm confused Martyn! Do I not need all the parts that are there: 6,7,8 (2 parts) and the right angle piece that sticks out the battery (that doesn't have a part no)?
I also have holes on both sides of the battery - do I need 2 sets of vent pipes?
Etka is wrong on the parts listings for this! what you need is number 8 the grommet, then 9 the angled piece and two lots hose, no's 6+7. Etka has these described wrong! IE the angled piece number 8 on the diagram , is actually number 9 in the text!!
The reason for the two 'holes' on the battery is so that one battery fits all! IE some cars have the vent hose on the left of the battery, some off the right. You only need to use one side, which ever works best to the S2. You should have a hole , ie a grommet in the floor pan, to push the vent tube through.
