    Autocheck woes post HID installation...

Well I've waited a while before posting, but I now need some help with a strange problem.

The background to the story is that I have installed Martyn's Extreme HID kit. This did not work correctly to start with as I had not done the constant main beam modification on the lighting stalk which damaged the HID kit. (My car is an early ABY without Elipsoids thatn now has Elipsoids....)

Once that was all sorted and the HID's were running correctly I still had the annoying Autocheck bulb warning.

About a month ago I did the Autocheck mod on the under dash relay to stop it from beeping on the lights. Only it didn't. Well not exactly. Here's the situation:

If I turn the lights on (even on side lights) I get a light bulb out autocheck warning and beep. This will happen intermitently for about 5 -10 minutes. Once the car is warmed up (at least that's what it feels like) the warning does not happen. BUT, I have discovered this morning that the rear window heater makes the BULB Autocheck warning come on!

Basically it seems to me that some other electrical circuits in the car are making the Autocheck think there is a bulb out! Remember I have done the Relay mod under the dash so that it is NOT supposed to be looking at the front lights.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
    Is the Autocheck unit damaged?
Is there an "Autocheck Unit" that can be replaced?
Do I need to check my earth connections on my HID install?

Any advice would be much appreciated the BEEP is starting to get to me!

    Cheers,

    Steve.

    hello mate,
well as i have installed 3 hids already,i must say that nothing like this has ever happened to me.I dont know Martyn's Hid kit so i dont know what kind of earth connections and wirring you have done with it.My kits where plug and play, and had nothing to do with extra wiring.I only had to bend the 'K' connector on my under dash fuse to eliminate the autocheck for the light bulb and that is it.
What excactly have you done with the fuse?Did you bend it or did you use tape around it?Sometimes it doesnt work well with the tape.
Also i would check the wiring again, and i would also try reusing the regular halogen bulbs to make sure if the problem is with the kit or the fuse or the autocheck.I mean if the beeps continue with halogen bulbs, and the 'K' connector out of position, then there must be a A/C problem. If everything restores after you connect the halogens, then it is most likely that the Hids are poorly connected.

i think this has to be found with the process of elimination...If you remove the A/C fuse completely, what do you get?do you get any beeps?normally you shouldnt get any reading after that
do you have a different fuse to use?Maybe after the first try something got damaged there..

is it possible you have a wiring short where the tailgate wiring joins the body. the bulb warning may be coming from the rear bulb circuits.

        Hi Mike,

It has only happened since I installed the HID kit. BUT you know what they say about assumptions being the mother of all ****ups...

Its the rear heater causing a bulb out warning that is confusing me the most. It there anyway to test the Autocheck and find out which bulb it thinks is out? As I say, I have already done the K pin bend wiring mod on the front lights autocheck relay. Perhaps I need to check that. (I bent the pin/blade over and added some insulating tape. ) Could that be a problem... ???

        Cheers,

I thought Autocheck looked for different loads on paired circuits so as long as both pairs are the same, autocheck is happy.

Might be easier to source a spare relay where you can remove the pin completely. If you know the part number I might have a spare kicking around.

Looks like the filter missed this because of the capital F of ****ups

                  Hey Mike, mind your language!

Well, I had another experiment in the car last night and I can identify two things.

1.) It definitely beeps when you switch either side lights or dipped on but is not bothered about mainbeam. BUT, this does away after 3 - 5 minutes. I think this is once the HID ballasts have completely warmed up.

2.) The heater rear screen definitely triggers the AC bulb warning every time.

3.) I don't think any other circuits are causing a bulb warning.

Mike I will let you know the part number of the relay when I get home - thanks.

I think I will have to double check my installation, and try cutting the leg off the relay completely.

                  Cheers,

                  Steve
