    Window motor

I hate asking questions that have already been answered but Ive scoured the forum for hours and cant find any instructions on removal and replacement. I have removed drivers side door card and tested the motor with a 12 v battery and nothing - completely dead. Im about to order a new motor - £100!!! Absolutely no idea how to replace it. Are we talking 2 bolts and hey presto or something more involved. a step by step guide with fully annotated photographs would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

      Hi,

Its around £80 from VAG parts i think.

the motor is a pain. remove the whole frame with ur window attacked after undoing 6 bolts holding it. then remove the 3 bolts holding the motor itself. put it down onto the floow and u can remove the motor from the actual coil which has the window regulator cable wrapped around. The motor itself has around 5 screws holding to this coil.

      hope this helps.

Has the new motor come with a new regulator attached?
You don't need to remove the whole frame.
Remove the 8mm bolts holding the motor and regulator to actual steel door frame (shell) then remove the motor from the regulator
Take the time to also carefully remove the backplate from the regulator and bung a bit of grease in, as they can dry up over time causing the motor to have to work harder and hence maybe cause it to wear out.

Reason I suggested to remove the frame is that its really easy to do so and makes the job easier.

Offcourse it can be done without removing the frame but u have a bigger risk with the regulator unwinding itself and the little rubber bits falling out and offcourse lot easier to adjust the motor position etc..
