Does the Draper service reset tool work on an '96 S6?

    Hi
I just bought a Draper service reset tool for VW / Audi cars and don't seem to be able to get it to work on my S6.
Has anyone here experience with this working on the S4/6?

    This is the item

The blurb does say that it is suitable for 91-2000 Audi's

These are the instructions - you have to set some dip switches to identify the car type but the problem is that there are 3 settigs for A6 & it doesn't distinguish between each one.

I tried all three settings anyway but none seemed to work.

If this doesn't work what's the best alternative? (I know VAG-COM will do it but this is a bit pricey.)

I think it might assume 4cyl and 6cyl models, all the models listed are modern and prob OBD2, not sure. The S was a strange beast having the 5cyl turbo so it may not support it.

I can tell you Vag-Com works perfectly on our S4, reads and resets fault codes, real time monitoring and logging, and a few other functions i dont understand yet. It will also talk to the AC, and on S6 models the ABS and Airbag too. Pricey but really cool if you like that kind of thing

Thanks for the reply. Small world - I'm in Ireland too.

Yeah the documentation with it is not great but I thought it should work because it has the correct black & white two pins plugs & the Audi 100 is listed.

When I was trying it, it went through the flashing sequence etc and looked like it was doing what it should but the insp warning still comes on.

What kind of money is VAg-COM these days anyway?

Approx $300 not cheap at all..

So where abouts in Ireland are you? I've seen a white and dark green S4/6 around, either of those belong to you?

        Cheers,

        Mark.

Located just outside Dublin (on west side) and also Kerry on weekends.
No mine isn't either of the cars you've seen - mine is a Nagaro blue Avant.

There are a few more in Dublin as well - I know of one silver one and there are at least two red ones I believe.

I guess $300 is not as bad as I thought it was - except for the customs here adding their cut on top of that.

I notice they have several UK distributors too.
I take it this adaptor would enable the vag-com to be used with the RR/3B engines?

if so, its around £300 for the standard version with this adaptor.

When i ordered mine i got a mail from RossTech saying they shipped the package without any s/w or manual (as you can download them), that way they can put an invoice on the packet for only the cable, you only pay duty on about $150 then. I was well impressed with them for that, talk about customer service

I think it worked out about 250 euros plus the customs charge on the $150, not much considering you pay duty on it then vat on the duty. ...then you got to wait 24 hours before they ship it to you, god that p****s me off

Must keep an eye out for you, i'm only up the road in Portmarnock. One of the red ones is probably ours
