    One Touch Windows

Can anyone tell me exactly how the one touch window operation should work. Mine only operates for lowering the driver's window.
We also have a 99T A4 which allows one touch operation of the driver's and passenger's windows both up and down. I thought I might have a fault with the relay, or did they just change the way they operate.

    Thanks

    What year is your car?

Early S2s had one touch up/down later ones only had one touch down.

Only the driver side has one touch down. All others are press and hold to get the window to move.

Mine is a 94M Avant. If it is only one touch down on driver's window, is it possible to convert it to all one touch. What controls this, is it the relay?

I have a 91 s2 3B, and also only at the drivers side i have one touch up and down. And at the other you have to hold the button for opening and closing.

And i was wondering the same thing, so i guess its normal and not a fault in the relais.

its all for safety reasons..... back in the early days they didn't care (consider) so much, so the windows had one touch up / down.

Then some kid somewhere (apparently got mashed by a one touch up) window and manufacturers decided to make 'one touch up' a thing of the past as it was too risky for them to get sued with the knowledge they now had.

Eventually they realised that if they put in a current draw measuring thingy in the circuit, they could make the window back off if it became blocked. Hence newer cars having one touch again.

It only happened on drivers side because of similar reasons.... takes concentration away from the road if you need to keep an eye on how far down the passenegr one goes.

Yours work exactly the same as min 95 coupe - but bu66er knows how to change it all to one touch.

All true - early cars have 1TWU&D on the drivers side. Later cars don't.

BUT - you can convert the later cars to 1TWU&D with the right relay swap and a mod or two. Will have to dig this thread and an old article out of the archives. I never sourced a suitable relay to prove it out myself and they are hilariously expensive from new.

One word of warning is that all this may only be true for vehicles with four electrically operated windows....

Just the relay change does the job, I've just done the swap on a '96 2.8 Coupe quattro. I have more of these relays if anyone's interested.

Vagsport: Do you hade the partnumber of the relay? You are sure that that's the only thing needed to be done?

                    Relays

                    Thanks for all the info.
Paul, would be great if you could find the information on this. My car does have all electric windows. Curiosity, would this work for the sunroof aswell?

Vagsport, how much are you charging for the relays? Do they sense the current draw in case there is an obstruction?

                    thanks again

would this work for the sunroof as well
Now there's a thought! OK - Who knows all about auto electrics? How can we convert the sunroof to one touch open/close?
When I got my alarm fitted, it had a total closure function for the windows. The guy who did it said that there used to be an official Audi one for sunroofs, but it was prohibitably expensive.

Whatever gets fitted has to know what position the sunroof is in - ie is it open (slide) or open (tilt).

I'm getting confused just typing this, so I'm going to go and lie down for a while - hope my boss doesn't notice!.

I've been thinking about one touch for the windows and sunroof on and off for a while now.

You could rig up one touch by having a relay for each of the windows. The normal relay has an extra pair of contacts to run the drivers window all the way down (and up on older ones) so four of these would give you one touch of all the windows. Only about £350 for four relays.

As for the sunroof, the Audi 100 has a rotary switch for the movement. You twist it to the position you want and it does all the movement itself.

I've not looked into it fully but I would imagine the sunroof motor has a control unit built in which takes the signal from the switch and positions the sunroof accordingly.

Whether this could be adapted for S2's economically (?) I don't know yet. I need to see the current flow diagrams for an Audi 100.

Oops, I just priced up the basic bits needed to control the sunroof.

                          Code:
                          Motor £308.00
                          Pre Selector £346.50
                          Switch £ 42.00
                          Potentiometer £ 65.63
                          Microswitch £ 17.00
                          Microswitch £ 8.50
                          --------------------------
                          Grand Total £787.63 + VAT
Not really economical especially as I still don't know if the motor is a straight swap.

                            Ben,

The pre-selector sunroof was an option on the S2. I'm 100% sure of this because I have it on my S2 The easiest and cheapest option would be to rip the parts off a car in the scrapyard.
