There is a cover that is supposed to go over the battey itself (Part number 895 915 411). There wasn't one on mine when I bought the car, so it must have been removed at some point in the past and forgotten to be refixed in place (probably during a service etc).

At least all the batteries that i have purchased here in the states come with a thick plastic cover for the plus terminal that would prevent a short circuit from above - you might need to trim the cover a bit for the terminal....Peter S
