Anyone know where this is on a 1996 car, i managed to short out the terminals on the sender whislt testing that the after run pump works (which it doesn't) now the pump doesn't run at all, i have checked the fuses in the fuse box, aux relay panel under the steering column and also located the afterrun relay all seem ok nothing blown anywhere, so i guess i have missed this fuse somewhere.

There is a Fuse located in the Drivers Footwell (RHD) behind the plastic trim to the right of the accelerator pedal/below the bonnet pull which can blow. BTDT
Have a quick squint behind that cover. I think the fuse lives inline on a hanging wire rather than in a fusebox or relay.
The only real test to ensure that the After Run pump is working is by taking it off the car, connecting 12 volts via the two spade ends and submerging both pipe ends (not the electric end of the pump of course!) in a bucket of water and see if it really is moving water. BTDT too. The pump can/may appear to run when you short out the terminals on the sensor but because the impeller is magnetic it is common for it to fail and not turn at all even though the unit whirrs away.
Will have a look tomorrow, i have pulled the passenger footwell kick panel out which is where the relay sits, no fuses blown there, let you know what i find.

You won't because it is on the drivers side as stated above
Full marks to Corey & Quattroboy, yep the fuse was found and it was blown, now replaced is there anyway to test the sender unit with the 2 wires on it on the head???
Just short the 2 wires together while connected, that is the only way but as you found out it is VERY easy to blow the fuse if you slip and catch the engine etc.
This test's the circuit, you will also see that the electric fan will come on also if it does not I can pretty much guarentee that the single pole connector under the headlamp washer connector on the n/s (under the headlight) has corroded due to the washer leaking.
The only positive way of testing the pump is to remove it and place it into a bucket of water, DON'T run the pump in fresh air you will knacker the impellor.
The circuit is fine, pump and fan run when the 2 wires are connected, however when i switch the engine off they don't do anything, new relay???

Dude,
That's supposed to happen. The After Run Pump only kicks in when the engine is VERY hot, can't remember the deg C that it kicks in at. That sensor sends a signal to the After Run Circuit when it detects that the coolant is over a certain temp value.
The pump & fan then kick in which can sometimes be up to 5 minutes after a hot switch off and then may only run for a few minutes afterwards; like I say it all depends on how hot the coolant is.
I would still take the pump off and stick it in a bucket of water and see if the impeller is doing anything. But make sure you have a cold engine beforehand!
