probably bit of a silly question but does anybody know good place to get an explanantion as to what all the warning symbols mean? the problem im having is this. i assume that upon switching on the engine the last warning symbol to go out is the check for the brake light? after hitting the break you get an OK. i know my brake light bulb has blown so the warning light has not been extinguishing....which is fine. all of a sudden while driving along whenever i hit the break another symbol comes up, similar to the one described above but with no circular lines around it ..everytime i hit the brakes it comes on with a loud bleep. what could this be??

The second one you mention sounds like the brake warning symbol. Usually because of a failed bomb (brake accumulator) but can equally be low power steering fluid (use only green mineral "goo 2000" or "goo 4000" vag fluid) or low brake fluid.

Yeah - *brake* fluid is good - DOT4 spec.
