  • HID Fitting & Earthing

Am trying to decide where best to earth my HID kit. If I drilled a hole in some fairly solid metalwork then bolted a ring connector to it would I need to scrape/sand the paint off the metalwork (at the point of contact to the ring connector) to provide a better electrical contact? – or is just bolting the ring to the painted surface ok?-(this would be a neater finish).

(P.S. I don’t mean the external painted metalwork – I’m not that much of a novice)

Power comes from the OEM Headlight wiring

                    Earthing HIDs

                    Thanks Guys,
I'll look to use the same spot as you Greg on the offside and also look for similar on the nearside. I'll use slightly longer earth wires to get to bigger existing bolts than I was originally intending but should give me more confidence.

I drilled a hole on the passenger side either behind the black plastic bulkhead seperator behind the OS headlight. You do need to cleat the paint away to ensure a good earth.

You will know if the earth is not good as even with the Autocheck Mod the "bulb out" warning light and buzzer will go off ALL the time. BTDT

Once all is connected and earthed correctly operation should be straight forward.

Do a search on "HID" and "Autocheck Wiring mod" and you should find all you are looking for...

                        Cheers,

                        Steve.
