That connector will fit into the plug which is normally on the H4 bulb. When you take out the bulb you have to unplug a 3 pin female connector. Plug it into that. It's the same setup as the relayed headlamp loom I fitted on my 'bombay badboy' passat.
As for the rest, the black one with the ring terminal is the earth. You need to bolt that to the body somewhere.
The other connector is for the HID lamp.
Have fun, I ought to stop talking about and fit the H1 kit I've had for two weeks

Thanks for that. I was begining to think it fitted into the relay socket. ie remove the relay and fit in the cable, but I couldn't find the bloody relay!
I'll give that a try some point tomorow. Must dash - I can hear the clink of beer glasses on taps. There's a pint or three somewhere with my name on it!:wacked:
OK I'm half way through the installation. I've got the ballasts fitted nicely. The headlamps are out and on my living room floor, but when I fit the bulb and the cable, I can't get the waterproof cap back on. So....
OK Forget my last post. I've managed to bodge a watertight cover onto the back of the lamps - BUT....
They don't work!
I have side lights and full beam, but whenever I go to normal dip all I get is BEEEEEP! and the faulty lights symbol on the autocheck display.
I've gone over all the connectors again, but its now pissing down, blowing a gale and dark, so I can't do much more tonight. The annoying thing is that I'm meant to be going out tonight in the car! Does anyone have any ideas.....
If you haven't already reconnect that four pin plug (scratch that as you must have done for the rest of the lights to work. )
Check the three pins connectors are securely connected to the headlamp wiring loom.
Check the the bulbs are connected securely.
Try turning them on without the waterproof caps in place. When Jason fitted the H1's to his A100 S4 he told me had some trouble with the caps fouling the bulbs. I think he's planning to cut holes in the caps for the bulbs and make a little cap to fit them.
There's nothing else apart from a faulty kit but that's unlikely on both sides.

I'll try all those options tomorrow. For now, I quickly put the original Halogen bulbs back in whilst there was still enough light left to see what I was doing.
I've already cut up the caps so that they would fit, but maybe they need a bit more clearance.
From the picture it looks like you've got the 3 pin connector inside the headlamp. Try it with the connector outside. If one of the terminals in the three pin housing is loose it may not be making proper contact.
It's got to be a fairly simple wiring problem (famous last words). We know the wiring in the car is fine so I can only think that the fault lies in the wiring to the ballasts.
One last thing, make sure the black earth connection is making good contact. You'd be surprised how much grief a bad earth can cause. I rebuilt a MkII Golf for a mate and it had a bad earth behind the O/S boot trim that stopped the headlights working

Kenny, sorry you're having trouble with this, as Ben has said it must be a 'simple' wiring fault. Check the 3 pin plug as Ben mentioned, for both HID bulbs not to work means the fault must lie back up the wiring some where as both HID's are fed from one 3 pin power plug. Are both the four pins plugs back on the headlamps, is the HID kit fuse ok? try them without the bulb cover on. Drop me a PM if you have any more problems.
I'm getting well pissed off with this. All the chat about the H1 kit and how brilliant they are forced me out into the dark tonight to give it another shot.
Still no main beam. Had the lights hanging off the front with all the connections tight. I must be missing something simple.
I'm wondering if the earthing point I've chosen is even an earthing point at all. Where does everyone else earth their kit?
I'll try swapping headlamps over tomorrow night, but its raining now and I don't fancy playing with mega voltages when its wet!:eek2:
I had to put the original bulbs back in or else I would be driving to work on sidelights. They work OK so no fuse blown there. I've also checked the HID fuse and its OK as well.
I think it might be a case of ripping the whole thing out and starting again.
I finally got my HID kit to light up this evening. Took me 2½ hours in the dark. What had I done wrong I gear you ask. I'd not connected any power to the ****ing controller!!
So, I had to connect it to the battery which is not the easiest of tasks when the headlamps are at the front of the car and the battery is at the back. But after a trip to Halfords for more cable, I finally got the cabling fitted, the bulbs went in and voila! We have daylight!
Excellent result! I need to get matching side lights 'cause mine now look yellow!
Only one problem left to fix. As Martyn hinted at in a recent telephone conversation, I get an autocheck warning whenever I go to main beam. This happens when I first switch on and also when switching full beam off. Martyn thought this might be because the other 3 prong connector isn't connected to anything, so the autocheck thinks the bulb has blown.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Possible fix? Can I simply wire in some sort of resistor to solve the problem?
As you can tell from this saga, car electrics is not my strong point.
