Don't you just hate Audi at times....

Okay I've got the age old problem with the rear bulb carriers getting corroded, so I've dutifully got the carriers and new connectors ...... but do the connectors have pins in them, I don't think they even show up on ETOS

Looking at the carrier it looks like I need some female spade connectors, anybody happen to know if they a special kind or if there is some sort of repair kit I should have ordered ??

You need to order repair wires to go in the connector housings. They come as a 30cm length of yellow wire with a connector each end.

    Which connectors did you order?

I make it 161 945 247 which is a 6 pin connector. If so you need 000 979 135 (for 1mm wiring) or 000 979 227 (for 2.5mm wiring). They are £0.93 + VAT each and you'll need 6 to do both sides. There are plenty in stock at VAG UK.

The FA also shows another 2 pin connector on the tail lamps (443 971 996). For this you would need 000 979 114 (for 1mm wiring) or 000 979 212 (for 2.5mm wiring). These are both on back order (the 000 979 114 are expected into the UK on 18/08/06!!!)

      Ben

thanks very much for the help , shame Audi parts didn't tell me this when I got the connectors and carriers 2 months ago

Still at least I can get most of them done whilst the car is in the garage for the next two days.

      cheers

I wasnt sure if the bulb carriers were still available so good to hear that! Needless to say Ive got this problem with mine after removing the carrier when fitting a replacement light cluster. Would've been fine if I'd left it alone! Currently running with a not very pretty but functional option using spade connectors and a wiring block! I might get away with the old carrier but the connector plug was well and truly corroded after a leak sometime in the car's history and this is only a temporary fix - so great to see a replacement is still available! - will get on to my local stealers and get the requiste connectors/wiring ordered! Think most of the wires are 2.5mm bar 1 that must be 1mm on the passenger side.

        Nice one!

As a side note, it would seem that MkII golf lights don't leak so much.
And as a bonus to S2 owners, the golf shares its connectors with the Audi.

As a result, 5 minustes down the breakers any you can have a pair of fully populated connectors with colour coded cables of any length you desire. Downside of Audi's repair kits is that all the wiring then ends up being 'I've been botched' Yellow.

          Nice!
