Really busy bankholiday for me guys, hope every one is ok. Right...... My water temperature gauge is up the river. It goes to about 60 but no higher, the fan kicks in at 90 still. even the gauge is showing 50-60? how ever, turn the ignition off and it may come back to life????
    Any ideas please help

Its probably the MFS in the water rail. If you can get to it try and see if you can wriggle it a bit. Sometimes its a bad connection. Other than that thay aren't that expensive to replace, although a right PITA. I think you can ground the wire for the gauge out. If it goes to full deflection then its the sensor!

It's the larger of the two switches fitted to the water rail underneath the inlet manifold. It should have a rubber boot over it.
Its hard to get to, hence the PITA comments!
          Good luck!

Here you are! Stolen from another thread! If you are searching try using MFTS.

I had to do this one recently....

It is a PITA but this is the best guide I have seen (saw it after I did it!! typical!)

Makes sense to replace the parts in this guide at the same time as your doing the rest of the job. Its not possible to change the MFTS without removing the rad etc unless you are a hobbit

MFTS is about £35 from vagparts iirc.

If your bumper comes off easy....the job is not bad...if its rusted on...it can be a big pita.

I will dig out the PN for the MFTS is no one else posts it.
