    H1 HID Kit question.......

My HID Kit has finally arrived from the States...

Been looking at fitting it, but on the bulb it wants earthing as well as the +ve feed.... Are the kits from VAGParts the same?

If yes, where are people earthing the bulb?

Also, because of the way this kit is, im gonna have to make a larger hole in the cover for the light to get the wiring out....

    Cheers guys

    Ant,

Check out my fitting guide for our kit mate here: http://www.vagparts.com/pages/H1_install.htm

Earthing the bulb is pretty unusual!!

yeh, i assume cos the normal bulbs have a metal base to them and earth on the chasis of the actual light.... these bulbs have rubber bases so dont earh in this way.......

That's true, our bulbs have non metal base as well, but the earth is taken from the ballast. Have you fitted the kit yet? or currently 'lining up the fit' The larger hole for the wiring, that sounds about right, you should of got a grommet for the hoole you need to make to pass the xenon wiring through??

The kit i got from the states so isnt one from you guys....

I'll have to show u a pic, but basically, there is a positive wire to connect to the positive feed thats there and then a negative to be earthed, but because of teh way Audi earth them i need to find somewhere to earth it.... will just get some wire and make a hole somewhere to earth on the chasis of the car...

aside from these 2 wires, everything is in a loop within itself, so nothing else going outside the circuit.

The irratating thing is that black plastic cap on teh back of the light!!

The grommet in this kit i huge, looks like the kinda thing you get on the back of a standard H4 headlight like i had on my golf, big rubber cap....

so gonna have to sort something for that too lol....

Grrrrrrrrrr just wanted to play with them LOL...

Do them at the weekend instead now....

Got it!! well in that case, as you say, use a body earth point for the neg wire from the bulb. Shame about the grommet though , maybe buy and use a generic smaller black rubber body grommet to pass the wire through....

Have fun Ant! its well worth it!
