    misty headlights

    Guys,

I have a feeling that my headlights are somehow misty on the inside of the glass, or maybe the chrome is dusty. I may be wrong, though. Is there a method to clean the DE type of ront headlights at home?

I don't know what DE means but: I have 1990 Coupe with the early bonnet.

I removed my headlamps and carefully dismantled them. The glass is held on the main body by stainless steel spring clips.

New glass is available from Audi or a spares dealer such as we have in the UK www.eurocarparts.com etc. Maybe vagparts could help? they are about £35. if the headlamp has gravel rash then they should be replaced for peak performance.

The glass can be cleaned using glass cleaner.

Be very careful cleaning the reflector as it is chromed plastic and can be damaged very easily. I used glass cleaner and not car polish as it is abrasive.

I was wondering about fitting later headlamps which leave a bit of a gap near the grille.
It's nice to see the Cheshire wildlife before you run over it.

      Hi David,

Here is da car with the DE headlights-thats how the germans call this "ellipson" projector type lens assembly. I agree that hitting the deer without knowing that he is a deer is something like loving a girl in the darkness -not knowing if she is your neighbour"s 17 year old daughter or your very own 63 year old ex mother-in-law. Sorry, I just had a glass of riesling on empty stomach. I also will make an attempt to clean my lamps. I"ll be careful as you said.

I have the earlier headlights which are even worse I believe.

Sarah my Partner was driving through the Savarnake Forest in Wiltshire, when a deer leapt in front of her. The car was damaged and She killed the deer. She is a vegetarian and so the deer was not much use to her!

She was driving through the forest a month later in a loan car on her way to collect her car after repair, when............ a deer leapt out in front of her. The loan car was written off but this time the deer ran off!

This is why you need decent headlamps, you don't want deer getting revenge!
