Seat heater harness images (warning: 9 images, slow)

As promised on other thread here are the seat heater harness images if you wish to build your own.

Complete harness. Consists of two parts connected by yellow connector that used to sit in the relay panel inside the dash. Useless if you build your own.

    Relay connectors

    Other angle of the same

    Connector 1 pin order

    Connector 2 pin order

    Switch connectors

Harness to harness connector from relay panel

Seat element connectors. Note that seat and backrest elements are connected in series. That's why the jumper is present.

Main feed + relay from fuse box

Where does that fuse live? I have heated seats but the driver one does not heat up - never got round to fixing it.

Me too, mine packed up last year and I never bothered to check to far, I could do with it working now .

It's in the fuse box. A bit separately at the front, not at the actual fuse/relay assy but under the same cover.

If one seat heats the problem is not in the fuse.

Take a DMM and measure the resistance from the seat connector under the seat.

As mentioned above the elements are connected in series so if seat base part breaks the backrest will not warm up neighter and vice versa.
They're usually repariable but the seat has to be disassembled.

          Hi all!

I digged out this old thread because i need an opinion from experts of the wiring harnesses.

I just bought a loom for heated seats for my 1997 Cabrio the loom according to the seller was originally fitted on a cabrio of the same year 1997.

Now everything it's fine with the loom as AFAIK only one brown/(ground) and black/blue/(power with ignition on) wires as been chopped but that's not a big deal.

The point is that there are no relays wires nor relays holder and it seems to me that they were not ever been there.
          The harness it's pretty neat....

Is it possible that this harness it's ment to work without relays?

Heated elements are listed with this number on ETKA for the Cabrio of that year part No: 441963557J (that's one number for both base and back rest)

While for the 1991 S2 we have part No: 4A0963555 and 4A0963557C (two numbers one for the base one for the backrest)

Also if i look to the diagram here: http://s2-audi.co.uk/workshop/schema...93/page2_l.png it seems to me that there are no relays......
A temperature sensor it's listed on this diagram can i assuming that this sensor makes the relays useless?
It's the sensor installed in the heated elements? I guess yes but....

Someone can tell me if i'm assuming right or not?
I know that assuming it's the mother of all F.......P

Thanks in advance to everyone that will reply!

You can get looms that work without relays, the relays are in the switches on the dash, they are longer than teh standard switches, about the same length as the heated rear window switch in a air con equipped car.

same sort of length as the switch on the left compaired to the others.

Have 2x rear switches if you have problems with yours.

1st off there are three possible variants of heated seat on a 97 Cabrio...

1 - Ordinary seat with heated option
2 - Recaro seats with heated option
3 - An 'integral safety seat' with heated option - I can scan these if you need them

What flavour is this car / loom ?

All three are slightly different circuits but none use relays in the traditional locations... quite chunky cables and big fuses apparent.
Looks to me like the 'integral safety seat' has some different parts used just by looking at schematics.

Don't want to waste lots of time on this looking at wrong options.

Oh and if you need help deciphering the schematics - just ask... I have a fusebox here on the bench I can use to show where things go !

                      Thanks guys fro the help!

                      Giving you more infos then:

I have normal original seats in the Cabrio no integrated seats (they're beautiful but firking expensive) nor Recaros

The upholstery of the seat it's leather with textile in the centre part and the seat looks 100% the same to the seats i had in my old S2 3B including the lombar knob in the inner part of the adjustment wheel of the backrest.

Ok the project it's to put heated seat option in the Cabrio.

I got this loom from ebay.de for a reasonable price (60,00 euros)
I have a very good car electrician that will help me on this
I have also a professionist that will take off the seats covers and stick the elements inside the seats and put them back together, while i'm doing this i'll change the base seat foam with new ones and give the leather a good restoration.

Then i will put the loom and switches in place and everything hopefully will work....

I had a look with the electrician to the loom i have and we made a comparison with the one that it's in the photos in this thread.

I must say that the loom looks nice and neat with original tape around it.
If relays and related wires where there and truncated we would have noticed.

He's opinion it's that my loom ti's meant to work without realys because the section of the wires in the green plugs (heated element connector) are thinner then the ones in the pictures in here.
According to the schematics that I have from Paul (thanks!) those wires are 0,5 mm while the ones in the pictures here are defenetely 1,5 mm.......so it's seems like we're going in the right direction.
The electrician says that he can easily put relays on the loom if necessary but I (and him) don't want to do it if it's not necessary.

Also if the switches have they're on relays inside as Acidburn (thanks!) states it should be ok to go on as follow:

Buy new heated elements by ordering the parts with chassis number. I already enquiry in to my Audi man in the parts department and I can have the sets for the two seats for 230 euros.
Buy new base foams (40 euros each)
Buy two new switches using the same chassis number procedure for ordering.

                      Do the job.

I have two switches that I can use from an RS2 1995 i will check the part number and if part No it's the same I'll use them, i don't know the price for new ones but I guess they can be quite costy....

I'm I correct in all this Paul?
There's any way to understand if the temp sensors are fixed in the heated elements?
I guess logically that there's no other place where they can "sensing" the temp...

Thanks for the reply and schematics and the all lot guys!

                      Stefano
