My HRW blows it's fuses and the rear fog light is not working and I am assuming the two problems are caused by 'fraying' of the loom in the hinge area of the rear tailgate. Just wondering if it is both sides or is it just one side that it the culprit ?
Yes, your problems are caused by the loom in the hinge section. It's the left side. On the right side of the hatch you only have vacuum for the central locking and fluid for the rear wiper. Get yourself a few meters of good quality wires and just replace the wires in the hinge section. Just be sure to make new loom longer so that the soldered joints can move inside the car body/hatch so that they're not in the rubber thingy because it will just brake from using the hatch. I've done that on my b4 avant 2 years ago and haven't had a single problem since. Damn my english is bad. I hope you can understand my post.
Rudpavv is correct
dne the job on my RS2 but i found a dedicated loom with a new rubber boot and crimping cables on the german bay.
the kit was very good silicon sleeved cables and with “matching” colors
