    Cost of external temp sensor

Hi i was wondering how much it would cost me to buy the external temperature guage and sensor? My car is a L-reg 1994 S2 coupe which i thought came with the sensor as standard from that year and on but does not seem to have it and of course what we don't have is what we want most like bigger brakes, HID lights amd more power. Also does any one know why it might not have been fitted?

    Thanks in advance.

An MY94 should indeed have the bits... Does your car have aircon ?

Are you sure the illumination bulb for the ambient display just isn't dead ?

Remove the cluster (10 minute job) to see if you have a 5 or 6 pin yellow plug that connects to a small display at the bottom of the cluster... If the yellow plug is there then at least you have the loom in place... Then look behind the front bumper on passenger side - near the bulkhead on centre side of headlight - you should see the temp sensor located there... Hard to explain without a photo really !

No the car does not have aircon. I will have a look behind the cluster for the wire but i am positive that it does not have a display i will post a picture in a while.

Here is a couple of pics of the dash showing where the display should be. Now i wait to be corrected but i don't think the display is there just some sort of blanking panal

          Just blanking plastic in place.

It has the same finish as the warning lamps - a matt / satin finish.

The display is actually of a slightly shinier / smoother finish.

Looks like a blank panel alright... Take out the cluster and look for a dangling 5 or 6 pin yellow connector. If thats not there then you'll have a ton of grief retrofitting the temp display module.

IIRC they are £65 from VAGparts. I am saving up for a new after I blew the original one trying to change the bulb...

I take it this plug is for the temp display?

And is this the sensor? picture may be hard to make out. It was taken behind the
                passanger side headlight.

                            Nice.
I bought an ATD, sensor and loom some time ago. I've got the yellow plug behind the instruments, so I wondered if there might already be wiring under the bonnet for the sensor. Thanks for the picture, now I have a clue to where I should be looking.
I gather there is only one wire that goes from the sensor to the display anyway.
How is the sensor mounted? It looks like there is a small bracket for it.

I should try to get my display back. I gave it to a friend to put an LED in it, but he still hasn't got around to doing it.

BTW, is it that warm up in Yell?

Two wires come off the actual sensor Stu, one goes to pin one of the yellow connector, the other is an earth, don't think it matter which way round the wires go.
