    Poor vendor response from Ultraleds.co.uk

Having fitted some rather gorgeous LED festoon bulbs in my interior lights last year, I was very disappointed when slowly the minature LED's started to fail. This produces a very annoying flickering (DO NOT fit them if you are prone to epilepsy for god sake) and of course makes the light dimmer.

Even though they are 11 months old, working in the electronics business, I am well aware of the life span of an LED and so was a tad annoyed when UltraLeds simply said 'tough'....to be fair, their actual answer was more polite and explained that they offer 28 day warranty and claim it is more than most.

What really ****ed me off was that when I called and asked why no one had answered my email, the snotty goit said that I must have sent it through to sales, as this is the only obvious email address on their website and that he was not interested in hearing about issues but would happily sell me more units. I managed to get the correct email address out of him, but before I could ask hime anything else, he just said bye and put the phone down.

So, my message to you, is STEER CLEAR OF ULTRALEDS, they just want you money, but at £17 for 2 interior festoon bulbs about every 9 months, they just ain't worth it!

When I mentioned that I planned to post this message on several forums and offered to send them the links to defend themselves, their (again very polite) reply was 'No I’m afraid we really haven’t got the resources to involve ourselves with car forums. I am sorry that you are disappointed, but we have just moved in line with our competitors'

So, that leaves me P!$$ed (at the arrogance of the sales guy), frustrated (at the politeness of the 'NO' from the support guy) and without LEDs

    Cheers n

Sorry to hear about your troubles mate, I too have used LEDs for the interior of my 96 cab although I went with these ones:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1pc-4...7485QQtcZphoto

They use 2 of the superflux type LEDS and I can safely say they are much brighter than the previous LED festoon bulb I had in (which had 9 of the normal 3mm ultra bright white LED's inside), and It was brighter than the stock bulb.

It is seriously bright, and very very white!! It's only about £4 incl shipping too!

Never had any problems with that ebay seller, his stuff comes quickly considering its from the USA, and I've ordered several different things off him to try out.

Both of my two led sidelight bulbs have just died within a couple weeks of each other. They were also from ultraleds and are less than 6 months old!!

Same to hear that Si, I have used Ultraleds for a while now too and have bought hundreds of Leds from them that have then in turn been resold on this forum for the Plasma conversions.
So far i am fairly happy with there service, apart from there postage prices - they are well to high. I hope you have better luck next time if you chose to use them again.

P.s. i Have also had a couple of LED side lights fail, they were less than 6 months old..

Eggzachary....'each bulb lasts me a couple of months' is not good enough when they cost up to 10 times the cost of the standard bulbs....then there is the extortionate p&p on top.

@ AndyP: Thanks for the link. The Aceparts items look very different. How do you rate them for quality and longevity?

                  Cheers n

Si - sorry to hear about your woes with these guys, but WTF is wrong with ordinary bulbs that last for years and years are dirt cheap and available just about anywhere.

HIDs excepted, as the do provide really decent benefits over halogens - I just don't see the point - especially with the hassle you seem to be getting from them.

I went for LED festoons for the interior lights for 3 reasons...

                      1. They are much brighter.
                      2. I am a muppet and regularly leave the interior lights on all night (and next day if it is the weekend), as I put them on when dealing with my small son. The LED's don't drain the battery like bulbs.
                      3. One of the festoons failed, so I thought it was a good time to 'upgrade' to what I thought would be a longer life alternative

Oh well, lesson learned I guess

                      Cheers n

I was thinking about going to LED for all the exterior lights where possible, as police are clamping down on failed bulbs - the thinking was that LEDs would last a lot longer and even if a single diode failed, the others in the cluster keep working. This news that some LEDs are a bit unreliable is therefore of interest to me! I hope that there are some more reliable units than the ones that last a couple of months!

Missed this thread. Never used ultraleds so can't comment, but I bought some 42mm festoons nigh on 18 months ago from an ebay seller "lockstocks" from his ebay shop dashlights.
Weirdly , he and many other LED/halogen/HID etc etc, lighting sellers are all disappearing on ebay, seems they are all being banned for one reason or another. Hell knows why?
Anyway, I've got a spare 42mm 6 x LED fastoon you can have if you want it. Just tried it and it works, the two I have in the car already, haven't failed in 18 months, so no reason to think this one will.

If you want it, it's yours.

                          Jas..
