  • 3b Dash wiring diagram for Temp Gauge not working & question..

    Hi All... my 3b coolant temperature gauge has suddenly stopped working, does the yellow plug behind the instrument panel contain the wire from the MFTS (T1 terminal, I think) if the yellow plug is the correct plug which pin or color is the wire I need to test? should there be a voltage at this pin and what value voltage? I've tested the Temp Gauge it appears to work, MFTS replaced a couple of years back. Just thought I'd test the wiring hence my question..

    should be blue brown and it's pin 2 on the yellow connector. Goes to pin 1 on your MFTS. Normal test is to ground the wire with ignition on and the gauge should move. If that all checks out, all your wiring and cluster is confirmed good

      Mike,thanks for your reply, where is it best to ground the wire? pull the plug off the MFTS and ground pin 1 on the plug? or ground it at the yellow connector pin 2?

        you should be able to do it a the mfts end. I usually just use a spare test wire. inlet manifold is a good ground spot as there are stud for wiring

            Mikes2 ... re MFTS/Temp gauge problem..Mike I grounded the No1 MFTS plug terminal, NO change at the gauge,Ignition ON but gauge didn't move, I checked continuity between No1 on the Plug and pin No2 on the yellow socket at the instrument cluster end...there appears to be NO continuity..... ? are there wiring connectors between the MFTS and the Yellow plug? am I correct there are 2 connectors by the brake fluid reservoir?? I ask as if I can test continuity on short lengths of wiring this may help to find the problem ... The instrument cluster looks to be in good electrical condition no signs of corrosion .....               http://s2-audi.co.uk/workshop/schema...c_3b/page7.png T8/f is in the engine bay on the right side (uk driver side) and T10 is in the aux relay carrier under the steering wheel. The wire colour doesn't change - it's always blue / brown

                Mikes2 , Thanks Mike, Good news! I traced a broken wire in the mass of cable under the steering wheel, looks like someone had joined the temp gauge wire with a crimp joint which had for whatever reason decided to pull out .. So all is good now. Thank you again for your input, most appreciated...Cheers Al.////
